packin' a gun while riding

I got my Colorado trail passes today and in with the stickers was a pamphlet with some rules in Colorado. One of which is "no loaded firearms" allowed.

A gun can be a very handy item in your survival kit. Protection from nasty wildlife, Hunting, Alerting Search and Rescue if injured, fire starter, etc...It should be packed in a safe manner and never even thought of for human confrontation unless your life or your family's life is in danger. If that is the case, you are riding in the LA basin not in God's country, the mountains. Ride safe and use your brains out there.

Carried Concealed Weapons

I agree with carrying while riding if you feel the want/need. In a survival situation it could become a handy piece of machinery for hunting, and crazy people seem to twist off in every other place on earth, so why not be prepaired at 10k feet? Be sure to check on your local and state laws before carrying, and be sure to have a concealed firearm permit if you plan to carry it loaded and concealed on your person. States have different rules about firearms on vehicles, some must be unloaded and cased, some states you must only have an empty chamber, and some states (Wyoming) you can have it loaded to the hilt in any position in the vehicle you like, as long as it isn't on your person...
P.S. I don't like to see these cry baby posts about getting arrested for riding off trail, and having off road headlights... obey the laws and you won't get in trouble! AND no one gets arrested for nothing... if you got a ticket, you deserved it.

Anybody got one, looking for one to buy.Make a great gift I think for atvers its called JIC Just In Case.waterproof to 40' too I think.

"Trail Passes" ?? You mean OHV stickers?? Never recieved no pamphlet with mine!?

As long as you are not in a National Park (Rocky Mtn).....you can by LAW carry a firearm.....winter, summer, day, night.

If that is printed somewhere "loaded" could be one in the chamber....

Always have my glock with me. As an officer it's actually in our policy to have one with us at all times unless we are drinking. That gets kind of old sometimes. (not the drinking, the carrying the gun!)

You could always start drinking more.
J/k

Always have one with me. Have the permit and feel comfortable having it with me. Hope I never use it.
Just like my beacon.

I absolutely hate carrying firearms when riding, but I must becauise of those grumpy polarbears we have up here. I should get my gun ported to save weight...

Like Ted Nuggent says...guns don't cause murder any more than spoons cause obesity...

snicker....

Karl

we all know forks cause obesity..who eats cake with a spoon...

As far as guns no my rides..I've never seen much point, unless I was going riding to get to a place to shot.. It's just one more piece of gear I need to pack and deal with, I'd rather bring my camera bag..which is already over 60kbs.. and sucks to carry.. As far as bears ect.. I donnu, I see bears all the time hear in mammoth, and deer, and coyotes...outside of getting a couple stuck in the house once I've never felt I needed a gun to protect myself from them..99.99% of the time they tear *** the other way when they see you if your make enough noise.. .01% of the time you back away verrrry slowly, and even then.. Unless I had a 12 gauge, or a rifle I wouldn't want a pissed off injured bear attacking me.

Then again I never ride of trail solo. I always keep in contact with my group. Last year I snapped my leg had I been out there alone I could have been screwed over royally.. a gun wouldn't have helped.. riding with your buddies seems to solve every one of the issues people have.. a pack of wolves isn't going to attack a pack of humans... ... and if i didn't feel the need to pack a gun to protect me from idiots when I lived in a somewhat ****y part of LA...I doubt I'd need one to deal with drunk sledders, or enraged hippies.

The area I ride is overpopulated with wolves, hungry ones at that. It sounds like a lot of guys are billy the kid pistol packing jackalls- I for one do not pack unless the condition warrants it. Could you imagine being mangled by a pack of wolves because you had to walk away from a broke down sled? Or even worse spend the night in a tree well hoping someone will find you before you could be face to face with a 170LB carnivore? Especially when your firearm is at home- use your head and treat your weapon like a tool not a toy.

Geez, it must be dangerous down there in the USA. Right to bear arms or not I can not say once have I felt the want or need to carry a handgun or any gun up on the mountain for a day of boondockin on a snowy mountain side. Maybe your mountains are different than our mountains, but we have moose and bears and caribou and squirrels and whiskeyjacks too and I dont need a .45 too keep the the crows from stealing my sandwich...

And if I go up on the hill in my klim gear with a bunch of buddies to ride for the day, I am not tempted to bring a gun just incase I see something to hunt. Kinda sounds like a lame excuse unless you have your skinning knife, drag sled, and gear with you to dress and take care of the animal and the desire to leave everyone else behind... sorry guys, I am gonna stop riding now, I saw something to kill over there, enjoy your mountain trip...

And I a not some anti gun person saying this. I have a closet full myself. Got 2 whitetail just a few weeks ago to fill the freezer and enjoy shooting when the chance to get the rifles out comes around. Maybe things are just different in Canada.

ps, if I wanna ride in the snowies or Cooke one day, is there a place nearby that rents out guns along with beacons and hotel rooms, just so I can be prepared for the dangers on the mountain?

Yes very dangerous....stay up there in CANADA for your own safety.

I think I have enough stuff to figure for my clutching and gearing, jetting etc without trying decide if I should have 45 long Colts or 000 buckshot 410 shotgun shells or a combo of the two for my Taurus Judge!!!!

Good Luck
