OVS 2010 M-8 TIAL TURBO DYNO

Dang radski. Why do you have such an issue with OVS? You sure like making d-head posts on all of OVS's posts. Why do you have such a grudge against them?

I have no grudge against anyone. I just think it that an M8 Turbo Charged putting out 288 HP @ 12 PSI is....well you decide

Truth is, I have seen some OVS turbo's run really good, and I have seen some bite the dust.

I just think that if I were a Turbo builder, I would sell more on reliability, consistency, and the mere fact that it can take you places you don't really want to go.

But some choose to say: My Kit puts out 300 HP @ 14 PSI, or No MY Kit puts out 250 @ 4.5 pounds, or check out my 500 HP 1200 kit. It all sounds cool, but in the end, its about who can go over the top, and make it back to the truck all in the same ride without breaking down.

So OVS, if you did in fact get those kinds of numbers, great! The propane idea is really cool!!

Just post the results so we don't feel misled in any way.

Personally being from Canada it is nice to see a new option for boost on a 2 stroke. I have a tial rg turbo but now with the new laws and no leaded rg fuel being sold here we are really screw'd. I live close enough to the border that I can get it across in my tidy tank 1 barrel at a time but that is a bit of a pain in the a$$ and well spring sledding I am in AK but..................... if I didn't live so close not to sure what I would do???? back to pump gas I don't think so. Propane is an awesome answer to all Canadians. If your not careful down south you will all be in the same position. supposedly they are making a 112 octane than in unleaded but it will not be cheap and I am already paying somewhere between $740 to $800 a barrell for 112 hmmmmmm 4 tanks of gas for $800 or propane cheaper than pump and higher boost.

Cant wait for my propane

lets just hope the propane 2 strokes hold together, it looks to be a cool kit but 500ish miles of testing just isn't enough for me to drop over 7 grand on no matter how much it will save on fuel

OVS finishing the dyno runs on Tuesday of the 2010 M-8 Turbo with the Tial turbo kit and the stock pipe. The dyno runs were done at 12 PSI of boost on Propane at 4658FT with the new Quite muffler. The sled produced 288.7 HP at 8500 Rpm. The new OVS M-8 turbo pipe will be dyno tested Friday to improve the low end torque on the new M-8 motor and make more horsepower. This pipe is constructed of 16 gauge steel to withstand the pressures on boosted applications. Pics will be posted of the pipe with final dyno specs as soon as the dyno testing is finished.

Hey Travis,

Seems like there is much to do about this number. I'm going to assume that the pipe and tuning were optimized for the 4650 elevation but the readings were corrected to sea level like most any other dyno sheets I've seen published.

I imagine that if folks were only buying sleds/systems based on observed HP numbers that no one would bother dynoing anything till it was very cold and the weather was in a high pressure mode. Highest air density wins everytime...LOL

Hey Gus,
How do ya know all this stuff..........I'd hate to see all the aluminum "lessons learned" trophys around your shop.............LOL

Looking forward to visiting with ya again this year!

Tony,
you are most likely correct ..thats why it makes perfect sense.

there used to be a very vast pile of cranks with distorted big ends ( deto )
cylinders in various states of dead,,,,LOL
and aerochargers,, with twisted and bent up vanes..lots and lots of those..( used to buy them from gerhardt by the dozen,,,....)

these days the only failures are mistakes,,or my devotion to wiseco and their inherent inconsistency...

bet you would have loved to see the old v6 and v8 outboard powerheads on the dyno with turbos !!! man that is a sound you never forget !! triples sound sexy,,!

v6's sound insane at full song under 20 psi boost !

Bob Bergeron, owner and founder of land and sea, was the mentor. Bob brought 2 stroke turbos into reality. I was lucky to work with him and be around these for so many years..
or was I after all the polaris triples I helped kill over those formative years..

Gus

thank god its gotten so much better, you guys out west have some very passionate folks producing very very well thought out set ups..

I'm hoping not to make any of those lessons learned trophies this year:) I think last I heard they had about 1100 or more miles on this setup which is enough for me to give it a shot. I would rather they put it on a dyno and learn what they can from that data than not have done it. If this new pipe they are developing loses 10 hp but gains low rpm torque and reduces noise I would still consider buying it. The horsepower figures are just a bonus, I'm all about the propane as i am sure are the canadians who are going to have a harder time finding race fuel now. I like to be a little out of my comfort level, it's the only way to push myself to learn new things.
Even just learning how to transfer propane from one tank to another is something that makes people look at me and think I am crazy.

My first video of transferring Propane from cylinder to cylinder. Bleeding the receiving cylinder evaporates a small amount of liquid, which lowers the temperature inside the tank, which creates a small pressure difference drawing more liquid in through the line from the other tank. To speed it up later on I will increase the temperature/pressure/head of the sending tank and/or reduce the temperature/pressure of the receiving tank to draw more in faster. This was to prove to myself that I could fill 30 lb RV tanks from my bulk 500 gal without a pump or pres./temp. differential, and that I could fill a forklift tank (same fittings as the kit) from my 30 lb RV tanks. Also to figure out how long it would take. This is not a how-to, if you don't know what you are doing, this is dangerous, possibly illegal, basically don't try this at home:) However...
