I only put the gussets under the ramp for storage. While loading I don't use them.
The rods would hold it, but that's a lot of extra weight on the trusses. I'd rather be safe than sorry. It only takes a couple minutes to put the gussets in once the sleds are all up. Since I'm only doing this once a year, it's not a big deal at all.
