Out Pulled!

depends on the year on the dmaxs. 04.5 and newer are all turbo noise hardly any motor noise, probably the hoover vacuum sound u speak of. 01-04 lb7 are all motor sounds and can't even tell they have a turbo, they sound pretty bad a$$ when hooked to a sled. some of the older fords sound alright under load to. i have an 05 dmax straight piped and its not loud but it is all turbo sound, sounds like a jet. I've never been partial to the sound of the inline engines but to each their own. :beer;

You boys must not have ever been around many highly modified duramaxs. Once you get rid of that stupid vnt turbo (your cummins has one too, if it was produced after about '04, thus will have the same exhaust hiss if straight piped) and put on a properly sized turbo, or compounds, there isnt really much difference in the exhaust note between it and a big block. Hell, the banks sidewinder sounds EXACTLY like a revved out BBC. But then again, most v-8s spining 5-6 grand do sound pretty sweet, diesel or not.

Tell me that duramax sounds like chit....LOL!

you dont even have to get rid of the vvt, just tune it so the vanes dont cycle at idle and you will have the same exhaust note of a lb7, alot of people do it with efi live

At idle, sure. But you still gotta have them tighten up unless you want one laggy pos! LOL! Then youre still gonna have the hoover. I just dont like the Variable turbos, the tradeoffs are too much in my opinion for the increase in spool. 20 PSIG of boost generally requires almost 60 PSIG of drive pressure, EGTs go sky high, and they are just gennerally inefficient turbos. If you think stock is bad, find a cheetah from fleece performance...those are the most anoying turbo ive ever heard!

HUH? who cares what it sounds like? It all about performance. I personaly like the sound my 09 makes. It is strait piped with a 6" stack. Sounds like a mountain lion getting raped.... it's bad ***

The Chevy never even turned his tires. Watch the wheels. From start to stop they don't even move. Looks rigged to me. His brake lights are on almost the entire time. You can't hear the truck rev, nothing.

Didn't need an oil burner to school a 6.0 GM

Most gas engines can do that!

Ok, I just put my foot in my mouth, a 6.0 can waste my 5.4!:face-icon-small-dis

i know of a few "5.7s" that would do a good job haha.

Yea i agree on the steriotypes. Some guys buy a diesel to haul stuff, some guys buy a diesel to look cool, and some guys just want to see smoke. Those guys are also the same ones who have tow mirrors and smarty jr's.

Just what I was afraid of!

You fellers need ta get back to shooting your machines where know rider has gone before, a trouble, maintenance free ride for instance.

Don't let the snobs over there be proven right, some are even saying it has to do with breeding or religious views!

Stop this foolishness, glue your jackshafts back together, and JB weld those cranks and pistons, it's time to reload and show em how to aim for that incline.

By the way, I couldn't tell if the better truck was bigger, anyone?

You missed the point. I personally dont mind the sound for the most part some of them sound like a jet engine at idle, but some are just straight up obnoxious (6.0 powerstroke). BUT, the performance tradeoffs for that slightly quicker spool are not worth it in my oppinion. To bring in 5 PSIG boost 300 RPM quicker you are gaining 20-30 PSIG in drive pressure overall and driving EGT's higher, and it is overall less efficient.

i was thinkin the same thing.

First off, truck tug of wars are completely pointless. Only prooves who weighs more, has bigger tires and lower gears. Second off, that dodge driver is a complete dick. Come on man, you gotta know when to quit, he went way too far. Thirdly, if it was me in my duramax that had that dick pull me around like that, i would have waited untill he stood on his nerf bar like the King he thinks he is, and then proceded to yank his truck out from under him and pulled the piece of ****e down the interstate at 80 with no one in it, bouncing it off of every K-rail i saw along the way. Its a steriotype, but lots of the cummins guys i meet are like this guy. Not all of them, i have a few buds that are cummins guys and they are good eggs, but there too many that give a reason to steriotype them

This does sounds like what the guy in the chevy woulda said to the guy in the cummins when he ran over to him. Shouldn't have hooked your chev onto that dodge :face-icon-small-win don't get too wound up buddy, just joking

I've got an 06 cummins with a 4" straight pipe into duals, so its equally loud on both sides of the truck :face-icon-small-ton. And I mean its loud, unless you're in the cab, then its really not bad at all. I live in the country, and it's mainly a farm truck now so I don't care. It really doesn't blow much smoke either. Now I've got a pretty much bone stock '12 cummins and its really quiet and boring to drive lol I love a straight-piped cummins
