Open Manifold?!?

everyones herd of running open headers on cars and trucks. but could you run open manifold? will it damage anything. This is not for street use if your asking.

like have the exhaust maifold and then a short straight pipe out the side.

could this damage the motor in anyway?

You can burn exhaust valves if you dont have enough length at higher rpms...I used to run a very high rpm big block chevy nitrous motor cranking over 11000 rpm...ran a 2 3/8 diameter by 28 in. set of zoomies..never had a problem but it did have titanium valves....I wouldnt run just log manifolds..put at least 2 ft of pipe on them...

Don't mean to be a pain, But a Big block chevy at 11,000 RPM. Need more info. on this. This is what I do.

my mud racer, was a l-88 steel crank in a very very good ls-7 block..cemented right to the deck, ran big brodie 3 heads..was punched .125 over, ran bme billet pistons(true 15.1 to 1 compression) and bme billet rods, custom .865 lift roller cam, 2.4 IN. 2.0 ex. titanium valves custom triple springs from riola racing, 1/2 in. head studs, oringed heads with solid copper gaskets,holley pro tunnel ram with both twin 1050 dominators on 118 vp race fuel and then on enderlie top hat on methanol, both fed by 2- nos profogger kits set at max(according to nos tech aprox 600 hp each kit)..and complete msd 7al ignition..this was in a tube chassis 4 wheel drive pickup that weighed just over 3000 pds..keeping the vavle train in it was constant work due to the high rpm ..but man did this motor rock...launched on both kits activated before releasing the tranny brake..would burn almost 7 pds of n20 out of each bottle on each pass.... dawn pics 001.jpg
 
another trick to making decent power from cut off exhaust is paint the exhaust from the manifold down and back half ways to the tires see where the paint burns off first after running it for awhile and then cut the exhaust a inch back from there
