OnStar will get you a ticket or prove liability

What are you going to buy then??

Toyota, Nissan, whoever comes out with a diesel in the US first. You know, cars that actually work well. I have a 2006 Dodge 2500 diesel with 76k that is a piece of crap and a Nissan Rouge that I will get 250k with very little expense other than gas and oil.

Sorry triple I know your opinion on UAW and North American cars and I just dissagree. It's nothing personal tward you or your family but the UAW and government moters are dead in my book, it has nothing to do with on-star for me I flat won't support them, just like most people.

I undestand what shortstop20 and himark are saying, I and TOTALLY agree with the need to protect our right to privacy...I guess my point is that once you abuse the law and the rights of others, I no longer care about your privacy rights.

Good example mentioned above...you drive 80 in a school zone and kill a kid, that info is no longer yours, it is now evidence. Same with those planning terrorist attacks, if they are stupid enough to discuss their plans on the phone, text, email, etc...that info should be used to stop the attack (btw, it has already happened...the 2 who were planning on attacking a military base last year were caught before they could act BECAUSE of the patriot act). I'm sure there have been numerous plans scuttled because of the monitoring for this type of info.

I dont consider this an invasion of my privacy...I'm not doing anything they are searching for so my privacy is intact...IMO

I have onstar on my truck, I am not really afraid of what the gubment thinks, afterall.....my opinion on our current administration is any thing but secret......bunch of theiving non american dirt bags that they are.........really, do I care if they hear me say it any more then if I type it.....

you buy onstar and its your private property...hmmm...your dollars pay for courts...yet it can be used against you...your dollars pay for law enforcement yet it can be used against you...the dollar cannot hide or protect wrong doing...at least its not supposed to..??

Hypothetical situation:

You and a buddy are talking on the phone. You say to him, "lets go to the bar tonight and get smashed". Your buddy says, "Ok, sounds good. But who's gonna be the DD?"

You say, "No worries, I can drive. We won't get caught."

Meanwhile your phone is being bugged and they now know that you are going to drive drunk later tonight. You get pulled over after leaving the bar and are given a DUI, soley because of the information you provided over the phone. Assume they had no other reason to pull you over(swerving, speeding, etc.)

Do you deserve the DUI or did they invade your privacy by bugging your phone and using the information(your statement about driving drunk) against you?

The government has far better things to do than bug phones to see who's going to drive drunk, again, it's just a hypothetical situation.

So where are the 1 million police officers that it is going to take to get all the drunk drivers every night going to come from? Why or better yet how would they decide to only get a couple? How long would that last when most conversations (especially from men) are all talk and little action?

IMO for the examples you guys are talking about would require a gigantic personnel increase in the intelligence and police community.. something that is highly unlikely to happen, especially when funds would be much better appropriated somewhere else.

Anyways, just wait till they put cameras outside your windows to catch you littering!

An example that is very likely is like I stated about the speed being recorded.

You can simply have an accident with 100% liability going to the guy that pulled out in front of you, then the insurance finds this information and can use this information to share liability due to your negligence. (speeding) now your injuries from 100% someone elses procuring cause will allow insurance company to not pay for your bills 100% and or say your debilitating injury that causes you to NEVER do any strenuous activity like...sledding boating etc. is diminished BECAUSE of your stinking OnStar.

I can just see it now...peeps getting sued for shortage of payments from insurance and the real stinger is you paid for the information to hang your azz.

Like I said, HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION.

I just wonder if they will drop the 18.4 cents per gallon gas tax (here in MN) if they go ahead with a 1 to 2 cent per mile tax?

The funny part is at 1 cent per mile it would be less tax on my Avalanche (15 MPG) but it would almost double on my Saturn Ion (31 MPG).

But who am I kidding with them only going to 1 cent per mile:(
