Not so funny stuff...

My bosses friend rescues animals. She lives in Huston and is going around rescuing dogs left behind and or lost in the storm. some of the stories she has been relaying make my skin crawl. She has been sending pictures and notes to my boss about finding animals tied to poles with just their noses above water. That is plain animal cruelty and speaks volumes about the people who left them there to die. I couldn't leave one behind that is for sure. I would probably do something stupid like stay behind with the animal if it ever came to that.

That is nuts....like why not turn it loose at the bare minimum? Dogs/cats would have a pretty decent survival chance if loose, I would think.

Stop thinking logically, people that do these terrible acts probably voted for obama. ? But really, humans have acu-weather, local emergency alerts and ENDLESS social media. If they dont prepare in some way its on them, animals dont have that luxury. Call me Sarah Mclachlan but i will spare all for the animals.......except cats....hate those creepy things(btw this is joking sarcasm, know some of you will get all huffington post on me).

Sure is!!! but some people who have animals just chain them up in the back and forget about them. Go out once and while change their water and throw food in their bowl. I am sure when the water started to raise these people this lady was talking about just saved themselves and never thought twice about the poor animals they had chained up in the back yard.

A Mayor of one of the towns expecting the worst from hurricane Harvey tells residents
"If you don't evacuate, take a marker and write your SS# on your arm so you can be easily identified"

That's a sobering point of view.

Why not take this mayors advice and write your SS# on your pet? :face-icon-small-dis

I wonder how many of you pet owners have chip implants for ALL your pets. We have three cats and one dog. All rescue animals. They all have regular recommended vet visits by our veterinarian and have the chip implants.
Yeah, it's expensive but if we couldn't afford it we wouldn't have pets. And our dog is never tied up. NEVER!

All of our pets have chips. Why not use technology to your advantage. I'd be more surprised if they ever tried to run. I think they even know how cushy they have it at home. LOL

I can't say our dogs never get tied up though. When we take them camping to one of those goofy city folk campgrounds they get anchored to the camper since they can't run free. :face-icon-small-win But they act all strange about it.....Like WTF is this rope attached to me, what am I a tether ball. LOL

I guess I didn't think about camping. It might be because camping to me is where other people are not around.

Most of the time it is for us also. But once or twice a year we end up with family or friends who's idea "camping" is backing the RV into a spot with full RV hook ups and another camper 20' from yours.

Hey, all bull**** aside, donate what you can as soon as you can. My wife donated blood yesterday, I am not able to because of an illness. At this very minute we are raiding the pantry and closets. Things you wouldn't think of either. Female hygiene thingy's, tissue paper, pet food, tooth paste, tooth brushes, floss, batteries, duct tape, and the list goes on. Hell, I hear they will even take clothes with a Yamaha logo on them. :eyebrows:

GOTTA GO, THE TRUCK LEAVES AT NOON!!!

So True. +

Donate Blood. You get Cookies.

Seriously. Donating Blood is Easy, fun & you get a warm fuzzy feeling. I'm sitting at about 2 gallons donated so far.

But I'm not entirely altruistic.. I do it for the cookies. :face-icon-small-hap I always take more than I probably should.

Depending on your health, blood type, type of donation, etc you can donate up to like 6 times a year (I manage at least twice a year anyway).

Your wife bleeds once a month. :face-icon-small-con Chocolate helps her then. You may as well do it every once in a while too and get the chocolate to go with it.

(unless, like Pro-8250 You've got a medical condition).

Save up to 3 lives with each donation. Or something like that.

My wife said the other day that she has to wait a minimum of 56 days between donations. She brings home free short bread cookies and once in a while a free tee shirt. :face-icon-small-hap

More animal stuff in hurricanes... Just when you think its safe to use the bathroom..

Had this in my inbox from NPR this morning. Made me think of this thread. Plus I love the picture.

Spoke to my sister in the Florida Panhandle this morning. She said she's enjoying the cooler weather. School was cancelled statewide in Florida, show she's just chillin with her kids. It was down to just a tropical storm by the time it started affecting them.
