Not happy with Arctic Cat right now !

So i have Two (2) 2008 M8 Sno Pros that I purchased new and maintain to like new condition. Both sleds are within a few vin numbers of eachother and just my luck in both sleds the Diamond Drives went out in the same ride and the first one of the year too ! One has 1,500 miles and the other 1,700 miles and the Diamond Drives are serviced every 500 miles. Just angry and mad at Arctic Cat and my dealer right now bc the sleds are one month out of the extended warranty and to get them fixed is around $800 each. My dealer which my whole family has gone to since the late 80's doesn't seem care or even try to talk to Arctic Cat to see if they will do a good will on at least the parts. I've purchased at least one new Arctic Cat a year and i'm really unhappy with them at the moment ! This just may make me look at another brand next year ! Sorry this is just a rant but just wanted to get it out !

That really sucks! Maybe try a different dealer? Those 08's are known for DD problems though. I'm not really surprised. Do you seriously want to go back to a chain case?

yeah

if your not happy with arctic cat service, then prepair yourself for a hurtin on the feelers when you try an service any other brand. AC is very nice compaired to the other brands!

That really sucks man, but Diamond drives going out is nothing new. Cheap junk bearings dont help its cause either.

I'm going to side with your dealer, your warranty only covers breakage during the warranty period, you were out of warranty, no free stuff.

That said, they should at least give you a discount on the repairs because you've been a loyal customer, if they don't help you out at all I'd buy somewhere else next year.

If I were the dealer I would push on cat as hard as I could about covering it. They should cover all them, given the track record. At the very least it sould be the parts at cost.

there should be a recall!!! if it was any other type of vehicle with as many failures as these have had the factory would be made to cure the problem. THE TICKING TIME BOMB THAT IS MY DIAMOND DRIVE...

If they won't cover it i would report it to consumer affairs thats the only way they will recall anything and only after so many complaints, that being said buy the bdx gears and planetary gear(not to sure if its out yet?) but thats what i am going to install on my 08, hopefully before that ever happens to me. Good luck!!!

I've got close to 2000 miles on my 08m1000. I haven't had an ounce of problems with my DD. Neither has my buddy with the same year sled. I change oil quite often though.
Seems the 09 has had some issues, but if you go to the bouble roller bearing(as posted in other related threads) , solves the problem. :beer;

It is not the bearings on the 08 that is the problem Mr. T, it is the plant. You will have the same problem shortly, trust me.

Freeride, pull your drive apart yourself and order parts from Black Diamond directly. The parts may not be as bad as your dealer thinks.

Bearings weren't the issue on the 08's. The transfer gear welds break and the gear slips, destroying the planetary. The gear and planetary assembly run about $450 and the labor is easy.

Not going to comment on the diamond drive failure reasons, but I dont believe that servicing your drive every 500 miles is enough IMHO. When I picked up my sled from Linderman he commented that I should change my oil every couple of rides, not saying I do that but I do change it every 150-200 miles. Just cheap piece of mind for me.

If the gears and bearings are wearing out so fast that you need to change the oil every couple of rides...something is wrong. It's just a gear reduction differential and after the first chage it sould be good for the rest of the season, as long as you can keep the moisture out. There is no doubt these things are lacking in quality.

I Guess I'm Just Lucky

Hmmm,I have a 08 M1000 sno pro with at least 10,000 miles on origional diamond drive and the oil gets changed once a year.I say close too, as I am on my third speedometer now.
I did have a plastic clip fall off in my diamond drive off the fork, that wouldn't let it go in to forward, costing me a helicopter ride at $750.00 over a .75cent part.

Only serious problems I have had is at around 4500 miles my crank broke, primary broke off, destroying both clutches, but all was covered by warranty.
While the motor was out I got the cases ported and had Brent Linderman port and clip the head and work his magic.200 honest hp,around 5000 more miles and still holding together, since Brent rebuilt it.

But she has been very dependable, but rode hard,I have replaced all plastic at least once, third hood.
I'm wanting to buy another one this spring to RG turbo.

wtf?!?!

I don't see why your dealer is trying to hose for of $800...EACH!?!?!
Why do that when you can get a BDX for $650, and it has a 'dip stick' to check you levels...AND you can get it geared to your preference...AND they come with better bearings than stock....Sound to me like your dealer is full of A$$-Hats!

Click and enjoy.

I think your extended warranty is covered by Cat Care which is the same as an "Aftermarket" warranty company.....They are of no help on sympathy coverage. Your dealer would really need to call Cat to go to bat for you. Really your best bet, like others said, is going to Black Diamond for the repair parts. If you can live without the reverse the DD lite from BD Xtreme is the way to go.

I would pull the Diamond drives myself and send them to BDX as mentioned. They have better parts to install in them. Otherwise you will be in the same boat 1500-1700 miles from now. FYI I sevice my DD every 500 miles as well. Pulling your DD is no big deal. Have some buddies help you if you need. You'll save alot of $ this way. The 07-08 DD's are well known for being troublesome. Some guys don't even get half as many miles out of them as you did. Just the luck of the draw I guess.

Thanks for the help ! I asked my normal dealer to call Arctic Cat service tech to see if they would good will some parts my way but don't think they even tried. Good thing I have the Direct Line to AC to get an audience with the tech. Hopefully this will get me beyond banging my head against the wall !

DD

I might can get you some new or even rebuilt one for around 600.

Call if you need one or 2 or 3
