No skill, pin it & go tale of the tape..

Had the opportunity to go riding to the Jefferson area Friday; Bluebird day, 12 to 14 inches of powder over a good, solid base. We had 5 '08 Ski-doo 800xp's with 154"s, one '08 Dragon 800 155", and one '08 Polaris FST 153" lined up and ready to rumble.

The Dragon 800 had only 100 miles on the ticker, bone stock! The XP's were all 500 miles plus, from stock to mild mods, cans, air vent's kits, to some clutch work... The FST was stock other than the 153" Maverick and had 1400 miles plus.

Lined up, the race was from a dead stop, untracked powder, across a meadow about 100 yds long to the base of a aprox. 45 degree slope which was also about 100 yds to the top.

Ran three races, all results are the same and absolutely not scientific!!

Race 1-3 The XP's pulled a slight hole shot of about half a sled length, then they began to fall like flies. Fst blew past them and never looked back, it was towed closely behind by the Dragon 8. The FST was the first to the slope with the Dragon 8, 1 sled length behind. The closest XP was about 4 sled lengths back. They hit the hill and the FST continued to put lengths on the Dragon 8 while the XP's dropped significantly... The biggest surprise was how close the Dragon 8 was to the FST.... It couldn't catch it, bit it hung in there all the way.

Boondocking is not the FST's strong point unless you're built like the terminator but point and shoot it'll dessimate the competition!

The Xp's seemed to boondock very well in the hands of there owners... When anyone elso tried to ride them it was like watching a beginner, actually like watching a retarded beginner... How the hell can you boys ride them dam things?????? We had a few other riders with us on older iron, after trying and failing to be able to ride the XP's competantly, the general consensus was, "You couldn't give me one of those dam things!!!"

However, the XP riders felt the Dragons in the group were awkward, and no one wanted to ride the FST....

All in all, it was a great day!!!!

sounds good, would've never guessed the fst, was it stock, I suppose it loses no power at elevation witch would close the gap on the smokers

im not sure about this but the 08 xps didnt they come with the challenger lite track..

which is an absolute pos in the powder?

maybe line em up on some hardpack and try again.. that track was designed more for hardpacked hillclimbing

hence ditching it

this guy must think nobody goes out and rides, they just read snowest

Actually doesn't surprise me about the FST.
The turbo is self compensating so at elevation it had more HP than any sled up there.

Not to surprised, been watching Hardcoresledder forum a bit and those FST's kick some butt!

Might get one for a backup sled, with that 170Hp program..:)

You're not kidden. I spent 1/2 a day on a stock FST and my Rev could take that thing down on 1 cylinder....

Sounds like you either had the worlds fastest stock FST, the slowest collection of 5 XP's out there.....or you're just making stuff up. I'll go option 3...

Cause nothing beats the XP, ever, right. God you guys are hilarious. Well heres some more bad news for ya. We were out this weekend, and an 09 M8 with a itty bitty 153 was the champ in some tough snow on almost every hill we climbed on. Thing was stock, can and intake and it rocked. And spare me the "yeah must have been the rider" crap, cause it didn't matter unless the really fat guy was on the Cat. The Xp I was on plus one other were 163's, a couple other 154's. XP's were nicer to ride on the trail in, FWIW. No Dragon this time, just a couple Rev's, they did OK.

I am still trying to get comfortable on my XP.My Rev was easier for me to ride ,but I am still making adjustments to find the sweet spot!!If there is one.:beer;:D

New to fourm , but not new to sledding , I have a 09 154xp and 08 163 dragon w/single slp pipe.
They are two totaly different rides I like both .They do some things better than each other.
From reading these forums, and am aware that there are alot of xp's in the mountains .I would say the xp is over rated in areas like deep powder.
My dragon just kills the xp , maybe with out the pipe they would be closer.
But I have ridden with xp's with pipes and lots of other mods. Same results.
I am hearing that a 09 m8 will beat a xp hands down.
If this is true the xp is now nearing the bottom in mountain performance.
What will help my xp perform like I think it should.
Pipes don't seem to help much , how about the big bore's
I hate to spend that kind of coin to make it a runner.

Where is this Jefferson area anyway? Do they have any real snow? :rolleyes:12- 14 in. on a good base is what the children ride their old short track phazers in. :D What the @#$ is a FST, never seen one around here. Must be a flatlander rig like a stock yammi.:D

Actually I don't think of the XP guys so much as " big bores " just maybe a bit of constant overcompensating for the known shortcomings of their choice, it can get kind of tired after a while. ;):p

Oh you guys.... Some of you make me laugh, just because you don't believe your XP's can be beat by a virtually unknown sled, doesn't mean it can't happen. I never said I didn't like the XP's, just said they were the slowest that day... And as for the FST all I can say is yep, it's pretty heavy, no I wouldn't want to boondock with it all day BUT in those conditions where horsepower, NOT traction or flotation ruled, the FST couldn't be beat period!

The FST and myself will be going to Alpine with American Snowmobiler magazine, and Troy from TJ's in Alpine this week. Were going to have some M 8's some of Troy's modded and turboed Nytro's and a stock Nytro. Possibly another Dragon 8 and a XP. We'll let you read the results when finished, don't say I didn't warn you, The FST's haul azz!

By the way, XP's and Dragons ride better, handle better, boondock better, the FST just seriously hauls!! =)

What's done to the FST? I ride with the Wicked Racin boys who have probably done more with the FST than anyone out there, dropped a PILE of weight off them, CF tunnels, big intercooler, bigger turbo, mesh hood, huge power gains. They definatly have much more potential than stock.
