Had the opportunity to go riding to the Jefferson area Friday; Bluebird day, 12 to 14 inches of powder over a good, solid base. We had 5 '08 Ski-doo 800xp's with 154"s, one '08 Dragon 800 155", and one '08 Polaris FST 153" lined up and ready to rumble.
The Dragon 800 had only 100 miles on the ticker, bone stock! The XP's were all 500 miles plus, from stock to mild mods, cans, air vent's kits, to some clutch work... The FST was stock other than the 153" Maverick and had 1400 miles plus.
Lined up, the race was from a dead stop, untracked powder, across a meadow about 100 yds long to the base of a aprox. 45 degree slope which was also about 100 yds to the top.
Ran three races, all results are the same and absolutely not scientific!!
Race 1-3 The XP's pulled a slight hole shot of about half a sled length, then they began to fall like flies. Fst blew past them and never looked back, it was towed closely behind by the Dragon 8. The FST was the first to the slope with the Dragon 8, 1 sled length behind. The closest XP was about 4 sled lengths back. They hit the hill and the FST continued to put lengths on the Dragon 8 while the XP's dropped significantly... The biggest surprise was how close the Dragon 8 was to the FST.... It couldn't catch it, bit it hung in there all the way.
Boondocking is not the FST's strong point unless you're built like the terminator but point and shoot it'll dessimate the competition!
The Xp's seemed to boondock very well in the hands of there owners... When anyone elso tried to ride them it was like watching a beginner, actually like watching a retarded beginner... How the hell can you boys ride them dam things?????? We had a few other riders with us on older iron, after trying and failing to be able to ride the XP's competantly, the general consensus was, "You couldn't give me one of those dam things!!!"
However, the XP riders felt the Dragons in the group were awkward, and no one wanted to ride the FST....
All in all, it was a great day!!!!
