Nissan Titan??????

So I'm thinking about trading in my 2003 GMC Sierra. Time for a new truck, and I'm getting a little tired of GM. It's all I've owned so far, but just tired of every truck having the same problems. So right now I'm leading towards a used Titan. So I'm wondering what are the differences between the years, and which is best. And if you own one, are you happy with it? Any problems i should look out for while i'm looking? All I know is GM so I have no clue. Thanks for the help.
Also decided I'd like info on Tundra

Son's got a 2006... Can't stand it.

From the drivers seat it is one of the worst I've been in for view of the road. Cab layout makes me think it can't decide whether it wants to ba new fangled car or a truck.

The ride is ok, but I think the others have it beat hands down. Haven't driven a Tundra, but then, they're just plain ugly so I guess it doesn't matter... :p

It's ran well, he hasn't had any real problems with it, but then he uses it as a car too, not a truck. Mileage is not good; I think he's down in the 10/11 range, but he has oversized tires on it (not to big, as he didn't lift it) which surely doesn't help.

Go drive one, see what you think. It's got huge blind spots at the towers which drive me nuts.

Good luck.

The few people I know who were "sick of" Ford and GM a few years back when those Titans came out have either gotten rid of them and gone back or they can't wait to get rid of them and go back.

ya, i do plan on driving a couple this next week. I guess i'm just wondering things i wouldn't find out in a test drive, Like the Towing Power, reliability, and such. My current is the 5.3L so it is a little step up. But i don't know ho the torque is on the Titan, I do love towing with my 5.3 it's not bad for a 1/2 ton.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. Drive a Tundra before you make up your mind. He!!, give me a call and you can drive mine!:)

Tundra

I guess the Tundra is also up for discussion i saw a couple today that i liked. Just liked the titans looks a little better, But i just want a good reliable truck. And i did decide it would be a Titan or Tundra. So Info on either please. Sldgy, sounds like you like yours? Why's that. I don't know anything about either.

Had a new F-150 every other year for a decade and a half then the new Tundra came out. I got the first one in IF and have 0 regrets. Fit and finish is excellent, power will shock you and the brakes are unbelievable (4 disc pistons like the 100k autos use). People are always saying that they can't pull like a diesel and that is correct but they will out and out brake any of the gassers that I am aware of. Stop in at Teton Toyota and ask for Aaron Carter. Tell him Bruce Lines sent you and he will tell you everything you need to know about why the Tundra over the Titan. Aaron was Tundra Salesman of the year for 2007.

Found you a bit of info on TundraTalk.net

I can definitely endorse the Tundra over the Titan, I have owned two Titan KC.LE 4X4's and only got 9600 miles out of the 04 and 22kmiles out of the 05.
It is known that the Titan has very weak front and rear diff, transfer case, front axle and rear axle seals. With a lift, these parts designed for a Jeep Wrangler and Frontier fail even faster.
While at first glance the Titan looks cheaper, but when you look at the features you get with the Tundra, the price difference disappears.
Only some titans get VSC and it is bundled with other options that make it expensive. Also, only some Titans get ABLS, which if you have it you can't turn it off. All Tundras come with VSC, TRAC and A-LSD, 4WD come with A-TRAC, plus you can turn these on or off as you please. The Titan's tow mode is joke, all it does is change the shift points in the first three gears. The Tundras tow mode changes the shift points when up shifting from 1-6 gear and when down shifting from 6th-5th, 5th-4th and 4th- 3rd gear. The Tundra's tow mode does other things which I won't go into now.
Another thing to consider is that the Titan may be canceled, sales dropped another 30% in Jan. to about 3600 Titans sold.Add that to the Titan's huge warranty claims and Nissan is bleeding $.
In less than 2 years, I had over $12k worth of parts replaced and that was the good Titan. The sad part was that the same parts continued to fail, so it didn't really do any good to replace them. One good thing is that you could mark on your calender when you expected the parts to fail again, Nissan was very good at building in a very limited life span to their parts.

Thanks for the info sldgy, I'll probably try that tomorrow. Like I said all i know is i'm done with anything GM and not so interested in the other 3. But usually it's easy to get a new truck, just decide which color and engine i want and go buy my Chevy. It's a little more difficult when you decide to change brands, cuz I know nothing about them.

i have 2500 hd chevy gasser with small motor 170000 miles not one problem in the 3 years i owned...i way over use it...tow 15,000lbs backhoe all these years not one issue and trailer does not have brakes(dumb i know)..tires, brakes, oil and tune ups, been the best truck i ever owned, hands down.i like the toys and nissans, but if it aint broke dont fix it.maybe i have been lucky.and i get 18-19 mpg empty driving nice never less 11 mpg fully loaded towing.

My dad has an 04' Nissan Titan King Cab LE 4x4 and besides a brake recall, he hasn't had any problems in the 123,000KMs he's put on it. On the highway at 65mph it'll put down 18mpg. He's seen as high as 21mpg with it. Towing, it seems to like to sit around 12-13mpg.

We just put an AEM Brute Force air intake and a Banks exhaust system on it, sounds pretty good IMO:cool:. We've towed and hauled plenty of stuff with it, treated it like a truck to put it short

I'd avoid the '04s just from them being the very first year of production, there were a lot of growing pains in the first 2 years but it seems that Nissan has worked the kinks out. Check out www.titantalk.com for more info on them.

Hope this helps:)

i agree with mule ram's are the only way to go. my personal preference is a 98.5-2000 3/4 ton ram with none other than the cummins and a 6 speed. with good highway tires a K&N intake and 4 inch exhaust youll get 23-24 mpg empty :D and if you want you can always get about 17 and blot out the sun behind you

I'd buy a Titan in a heartbeat. My buddy own's one, and it pulls a 4 place enclosed trailer like it's not even there. We took it on several trips last year, and got 9-10 mpg fully loaded. I don't think they've done much in the last 4 years on them, but work out the little kinks. Go drive one, and then decide. I own a GM too, and would love to get a Titan or a Tundra for my next truck. Looks are all personal, I like the look of the Titan, espically the baja one or what ever it is with the 4" lift.

Because the VP44, lift pump, cracked 53 block, weak front ends and cracking dashes were just plain awesome...

I drove GM my whole life. Now I drive an 07 Tundra, which I agree is ugly (I prefer the Titan and GM look), but 60 000 miles later I don't know what the Toyota dealership looks like inside, and THAT is beautiful.

Ask if anyone here has actually owned a Toyota and gone back to the big three......usually a thread ending question.......lol.

4N trucks suck.
I used to have this opinion as well. Don't get me wrong I drive a GM right now just for the fact that I need at least a 3/4 ton for pulling the things I do. But I also just bought a 08 Crew cab Tacoma. Awesome truck. rides great, good mileage. like everything about it. As far as power goes yes you will always get more with the big american diesels. But for reliabilty I would trust a toyota to 200,000 miles anyday. Now my Chevy with 60,000 miles on it has givin me problems from day one....its not a good thing when you are nervous to drive a truck out of town because who knows if it will get you back. If Toyota made a 3/4 or 1 ton that chevy would be gone in a "heartbeat". Besides there is no such thing as an American truck anymore. My chevy was built in Canada. My whole front end uses metric bolts. Most all parts of the "big three" are made overseas and just assembled in america.
