NHRA's Scott Kalitta dies

I think a lot of the racers would like to run 1000'. Most of the major engine damage comes after that point and yes, these tracks were built back when these cars were going at least a 100MPH slower in the 1/4. There isn't much of anything at the end of the track at English town but a bunch of trees.

R.I.P. Scott. You will be missed!

Yeah, a 1/4 mile to todays Top Fuels & Funny Cars may just as well be the salt flats.

Another vote for 1000', or even 1/8 mile.

NHRA has tried to shorten the tracks or limit nitro and some other things but the racers allways *****...Mabie this will finally be enough to make a change.

I don't think it mattters what track he was at,he was estimated at 250mph into the sand trap. Most tracks I race at the outcome would have been the same, just not much you can do to stop a car going that speed.

As racers we choose to get in the car each time knowing things can happen. He has been around the sport his whole life and saw alot of stuff happen but he still chose to race. When I heard the news I was at a race just getting ready to make a run in my car and it made me sick to my stomach. But I still chose to race, just as I bet he would have if it was somebody else that day instead of him.

May he rest in peace...:(

This is a very tragic event and hopefully the NHRA or the race teams can learn from it the way they have from the Medlin crash. Like AA/AT I too understand the risks involved in drag racing and I still get in my car, although half as fast as those guys.

RIP.

does any one know if there was a camera man in the basket that he hit. if there was i bit **** his pants
