NEXT ?--Remote Car Starters...

I have always had ASTRO START. These always seem to work fine for me. have installed myself before. Depending on the vehicle sometimes you need a spare key to put in a box under the dash.

Compustar... I had it on my Duramax! It rocked!

Have someone do it unless you are a super electrician. I guess you could spend a saturday doing it, but i would pay someone to do it while i go riding :D

id look for one with a security system included. also get one that works from a far distance. i forget what my old car had but it sucked. im also looking one for my truck but cant find a good one for a standard

clifford makes an alarm system that you can add remote start to that has safety measures to make work with a manual tranny. had it on my last truck and on my new truck.
finding someone to install it will be the hard part.most installers dont want the liability of installing a remote start on a manual trans.

I have a Clifford in the Chebby....works great. Not the cheapest, but I want one that won't fry the ECU in the vehicle. Find an installer that does the job in 3 to 5 hrs. Any shorter and they're using Scotchlocks and other shortcuts.....you don't want that crap.

I bought a viper remote start for my wife last christmas. Seems to work good. I had it installed. It is Chrysler Town & Country with power doors and navigation, loaded, etc. Looked like a major pain in the a$$ to install.

What ever you do, all connections have to be SOLDERED!!!!! of they don't solder them, don't let them do the installation.
Viper is good, Astro Start is good.

You're driving a pretty popular car so tech support for the installer should be pretty good. You'll notice after a while that most of the fluffy features you pay extra for don't make the unit work any better. You want good range and an easy to use remote.

Does anyone know if VW dealers install them. I guess I could call....I take it I should go over all of it after the install....Still checking if any of the people I know have a "guy"!

I've had 3 different Astro Starts now and never had an issue with any of them. I'm sure I'm capable of installing my own, but I always get a GM Tech to do them.

I had a Viper remote start in my 99 GMC and it always worked great. Then I had it taken out and installed in my 01 Dodge Cummins and it doesnt work for ****. It starts and then shuts off right away and keeps repeating. Im sure it was the installers problem and not Vipers. That reminds me I should get that fixed its cold up here!

i like and run astro start because they offer a lifetime transferable warranty...i have had the same one that i have switched to 3 different vehicles over the past 5 years and have never had an issue...

Astro-Start..have been installing them for 10 years now, had very good luck with them, I average about 150-200 a year by myself, work for a small electronic shop and we are very busy with them this time of the year. Cant say as if I have done your particular car though. Dont see many V-dub's around here. Soldering the wires is the only way to reliably make them work. I can do the average car in 2-3 hours sometimes less, sometimes more, depends on the car. They make by-pass modules so you dont have to give up an expensive key anymore.

alot of manufactures offer them as accessories now have you checked your dealer just installed one today on a subaru piece of cake all pre wired and connectors no soldering just routing a harness and programming
