New to me 2008 turbo M1000 nightmare

THIS THREAD IS OUT DATED!

Ok I just bought a 2008 M1000 with the Boondockers Race gas turbo on it.
I took it out for a very short ride at at rabbit ears this past weekend.
I would rate it 6.5 out of 10 as it is right now. It was set up to run on 110 race gas but it has LL100 in it. It runs bad on the bottem end, and a bad lean bog when you hamer the gas and it pulled like a pump gas M8 on the top end. (boost turned all the way down)
I will update this post once I ride it with all the BD updates that I plan to put on it. All updates should just over a $1000 with no oil tank or smaller inercooler updates.
Heres a list of updates I have planed for it.
High out put in tank fuel pump and take the stock and in line pumps off it, new updated pop off valve on inercooler, air temperature sensor update into the inercooler, wire harnes up date to air box injectors, Wastegate Controller, up date, Doondocker box reflash, fuel pressure regulator and fan for the inercooler. with just a wide band o2 sensor gage for engine monitoring.
I think this will bring the sled to a nice 9 out of 10.

I've got to agree with wyo. TM1000 troubles or "corrections/updates needed", call Twisted. They do it right, the first time.

Well I dont want a 12 out of 10 sled and I dont want to spend $2000.
I did a lot of reading before I bought the sled and updating the sled with BD parts is what im going to do. So many guys come on here and ask what they should do, looking for ez fix. Well im going to tell you what im going to do and let you know what happens. but thanks for your input.

it would be good if you could get the sled to someone who has done turbos for years and knows the tricks. maybe they would let you watch the work so you could learn, but your condition could be as simple as a worn belt, or broken clutch spring or..... if set up for race gas then av gas is a whole different thing. and every race gas is dramatically different. they make race 92 all the way up to 118 motor octane. very different ffrom av gas.

You don't have to make it a 12 out of 10, but thats what you would have when comparing the two, you can always turn it down. When you get the fix done and it works good enough what are you going to do when BD comes out with another update. My friend bought a pg m1000 kit last year and there update will cost $600 this year. Thats a less than year old kit. Plus install. The last time I checked twisted hasn't changed and been kicking as$. I bet the value of the sled would go up as well. So you can go with bd and spend just as much in the long run or do it right once. I am just trying to help out and not saying you have to listen and I'm sure others have there opinion as well. So best of luck,

Did you check pistons and compression, I've seen more than one of these kits with scared pistons and cylinders.

I dont need to bring the sled to someone that does turbos to have them
do updates. If I cant do the updates myself, I should not own a sled like this. As for the engine, the pistons and jugs are like new and the compersion is good.
It was set up for 110 race gas. Yes the belt is very used but the springs are fine.
when I did the reading about my RG kit and other kits, I found that a lot of guys half a$$ things, Like talking to one guy and did half of what he was doing and then 3 more guys and blend it all together and had a poor running sled and blamed it on the kit.
well Im not going to half *** it and want to keep it a BD Race gas kit. Maybe once its updated it will just kick a$$ and I will be happy and maybe i wont but the updates that Boondockers have for it are a must and I can do them in one day.
Im posting this to help guys with Boondockers race kits on there M1000s

I assumed you would do it but it is still your time and it counts for something. I have also seen many kits run like chit and then a guy that knows something adjusts the fuel and it rips. Like you where saying theres no half fast on boost. I just think anything less than twisted is half fast. Just my .02 How much boost do you plan on running with this setup?

All hail twisted turbos ..... If the guy wanted a twisted kit he would have bought one. He wanted a boondocker so that is what he bought. Some people forget that there is more than one way to make a turbo run the way it should. Shains sleds do run well but it isn't the only way

I have no plan for the amount of boost i want to run. Thinking about that right now is like puting the cart before the horse. But im going to start with 50/50 mix of 110 race fuel and LL100

If you mix those 50/50 you will end up with 103 octane max. I would not be surprised at all if you give it a 6.5 out of 10 if it is set up to run 110 and you are expecting to get the same performance out of av gas. How low can you turn your boost down on your race gas kit? On my m8 when I turn the boost all the way off it never drops below 10 pounds. If yours is anything similar to that it will not run well on the lower octane

You have to base it off of the MON of each fuel. and Race gas and AV gas are not the same type of fuel. But to roughly compare the two:

ll100 = 97 MON
VP 110 = 107 MON

mixed 50/50 will give you 102

here is a spreadsheet for helping you mix but you have to make sure you are comparing apples to apples

and some reference sheets

and a blending chart if you want to blend with pump fuel

the inercooler pop off valve needs to be added to the list. their are two types a guy can get, an adjustable one or a non adjustable one. I plan to go with the non adjustable one, not because of price but that it keeps my hands off it :)
Hello Kevin

Sorry to take so long but the phones will not let up very busy.

ADA upgrade $129.00 (this puts the air temp sensor in the inercooler with a reflash of the BD box and wire harness update)

New High HP Fuel Pump $150.00 (this will get rid if the inline pump, fuel pressure regulator and return fuel line to the gas tank

Copper Cap for pump $8.60 (this is for in tank fuel pump update)

Fitting for cap $6.57 (this is for in tank fuel pump update)

4 way adapter $15.00 (this is to clean up the wiring for the turbo oil pump, inercooler fan and somethig that I cant recall right now)

Fuel Booster assembly $169.00 ( I think this is to run the fuel pump on AC voltage)

Adjustable actuator $199.00 ( this will adjust the amount of boost i want to run, I was told I can run pump gas with this unit all the way up to 110 race gas and beyond )

Fan & Shroud for intercooler $230.00 (I hope i can get a better price than this)

50/50 mix of 110 & 91 octane 9K to 11K safe boost is 9-10 lbs

I admire what you are trying to do, and wish you luck.
I have told you what I have done and it worked, so if this dont pan out try it. Far less money than you think as I didnt spend two grand to do it.
Keep this thread updated as you progress though. I know lots of folks will like to know the outcome.

at 9-10k we run 9 lbs on pump gas around here (with no innerheater). You should not need a 50/50 mix at RE or wherever you're riding around here.

Keep dealing with boondickers... you'll understand eventually.

Inferior product with a bunch of gimmicks & gadgets that work on occasion & cost you a bunch more $$ than they should.

Btw... why would you need an adjustable actuator for $200? Did the kit not come with an actuator in the first place?

Maybe there is a reason that alot of people say call Twisted.... I am pretty sure Shain is not paying for people to say this.

Wow 50/50 110 mix for 9-10 psi at that elevation. I'm running straight av gas in my CPC kit at that same boost pressure and I ride 6000-8000 feet. I've only got the stage 2 kit that runs my two stock injectors as well. Straight av is gonna be cheaper than that mix for ya:)
