This post is very interesting. But it sure seems that more dealers would chime in with some numbers. Who would know the rate of failure better than these guys? There is certainly bias both ways and it should about even out. This poll is about all you can do unless you have hard figures from dealers or the mother ship.
Not being a pro owner I have no experience with them, but you sure see a lot of interest in Indy Dans modification that does not offer any performance gain. To me that speaks volumes. Granted he does offer a guarantee but can't you purchase an extended one on the stock motor? Been a Polaris guy all my adult life and still am, but before I lay out 12 grand, I want to hear a hell of a lot less about skirts breaking off!

Yep Browning, your right. What Indy Dan gives you is long term reliability, which is more important that performance IMHO.

If you want a dealers opinion on engine failures I will give you mine. Of the appox. 100 Pro's we have sold in two years we have had zero engine failures. I have seen a few TPS issues and that is about it. How anyone can take this kind of poll seriously is beyond me. To make my point, I have never owned a Cat or a Doo but I went on the Cat forum and voted on their poll with a engine failure. Whats to keep anyone from voting dishonestly?

I would agree with you and I will quote myself from a earlier post: "Good question, you can check by clicking on the number of votes in the poll. Each voter in each section is listed. How about this fellow for example type_a_positive he was the last to vote, Engine Failure: crank (bearing/pin/throw). Most of his 311 post seem to run green, even his last post from 5/24/12, Cat1100T http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/s...d.php?t=312446. He might of just picked up a PRO (gave up on trying to get his boosted cats clutch to start purring) and within a short time his new PRO went BOOM like they all will, just a matter of time...(Sarcasim). It sure is fun having the most talked about mountain sled!

In no way shape or form is it in a dealers best interest to be honest about any manufactures issues. I am close to a polaris dealer (sister married into the dealership) and i will tell you first hand that you will be one of the few, if you make it to 2k miles without an engine failure.

Numbers are going to rise as these machines get more miles i bet 75% of the people who voted have less then 1000 miles on there sleds. Most failures are coming in at 1200 to 2k.

I will probably own a 13 pro with extended motor warranty next year, if cat doesn't fix my belt issue. But im coming into this purchase assuming im going to blow a motor under warranty within 2k..

I wont be doing any engine, intake, or exhaust mods just because of this and i think people on this forum that preach about the motors reliability could be putting people in a bad situation come warranty time if they do any mods to there motor...

Not to come in and hound but lets keep it real a dealer has no place responding to this topic we all know there answer "what issue" oh "your the first one with that issue" oh but parts are on backorder lol...

Keep it real, theres no denying my sleds a belt eating whore and the poo is a motor eating whore. Difference to me is poo fixes there motor for free, and it might only break once a year i it does. Getting cat to warranty a belt was fn bs at the start of the season..... I dont care what the issue is if they get me up n running quick and fix the issue....

What is sad is that I have information from dealers and aftermarket companies that pretty much 100% back up what I read above this post. I too called BS!!! Then after 2 month of not being able to figure out the issue, we pulled the pistons out. Exactly as I was told they would be. I guess what I find the sadest is that I had to promise not to use their names or company names so Poo could retaliate on them. USA or China? What country do we live in again? I am confused. I was actually told 1000 miles is where the rings and pistons have problems. Skirts are 500 to 1000 more than that. Like I have said earlier, lets see how many of the "Not one problem on 12" voters vote next season after they get some miles on the motor. I think the tune is going to change.

Is it just me or are the numbers on this poll vaguely similar to the old poll? Or are the Polaris haters still voting and people are researching their past posts and finding out they are not Pro owners? From my own experience, I run out of warranty in December this year and I am NERVOUS. My sled has been awesome to ride, but wildly unreliable. I read some of the earlier posts about the owner having the responsibility because of their decision to buy a Polaris...not sure about that one. Other than performing the maintenance outlined in the manual, I don't think you should have to go above and beyond to make your machine run when you pay over 10,000 dollars for one. That seems ridiculous.

Seriously aebsledder, when I'm in your shoes and within a year of warrantly expiring, I'd send the motor out to Indy Dan to have your cylinder skirts reinforced and his Long Rod Motor kit. Or just to have your cylinder skirts reinforced at least. You have one crack off and drop down into your crank and your engine is toast. :boom:

I know, it already happened to me. I was actually thinking of just buying an extended warranty and cycling through engines until Polaris runs out of them for my sled.

2012 pro 800 1000 miles, Piston broke and blew a hole in the cases completly destroyed motor. Need a short block!!!!:rip:

2012 Pro with boondocker race gas turbo running 10lbs...860km no issues so far! :) Runs like a dream

Scrubz I have new motors that I willl sell as shortblocks or complete with wiring let me know if you are interested.

2011 Pro -3 motors and added warranty
2 rebuilds and 1 short block in 2800 miles
2011 Snowcheck has 4 year bumper to bumper warranty but
expires at 3,000 mi. Had to pay another $800 bucks to extend it
3 more years. Traded this sled, Snowchecked a 2012 Pro, it had 3200 miles on it. Lost 30 days riding with down time.

2012 Pro -1 motor at 1448 mi. Complete shortblock. For 2012 the 4 year
bumper to bumper does not have the mileage limitation.

I ride between 4000 and 5000 miles in a normal year. It's good to have spare sleds. Sidelined this spring do to medical.

I ride with 3 other 2011 Pros and they have rebuilt 4 motors. They are not forum members. To put in perspective we had a 2011 e-tec in the group that replaced 3 motors in 1500 miles last year. Now if we want to talk about Dragons I can fill your shop with used up powerplants.

Duh!

2011 pro with 2400 miles. I had a new shortblock in it at 1200 miles, no issues since. This sled has held up extremely well considering the amount of trees it's seen.

I love my sled but ,motor mounts ,reeds and top end done at 1800 miles all warranty but i had to pay for filter but i was down for a few weekends dam it,but i can say coming off a 2009 m1000 that killed me with belts at $200 a pop and cases of oil the motor rocked but the rest was junk
