New Boondocker Oiling System Info ?

Sled swap meet took me all day yesterday. Didn't get out to my friends to look at it.

I did talk to him though

Kit came with NO Instructions!

He says the turbo has a inlet for oil but where the drain would be has a block off plate bolted to it.

Kit came with tunnel reinforcers in the foot well area for both sides.

Both sides are over lay plates, don't need to remove the existing plates to install them.

Now the question is, why the block off plate on the turbo? Won't it have to consume the oil before new oil can be introduced? Doesn't make sense to me.

Hopefully I get out there today to take a look for myself.

The website has the old instructions , not the new.

The way it was explained to me was the oil will get pumped to the bearings and "burn off", no need to drain out.
 
The kit doesn't come with any tees or anything that I can see to be used to plumb in the oil supply for the turbo..... Sure wish there was a note or something describing their recommendations for plumbing that in. Everything else is pretty much the same as previous kits
 
guys, if your into truck pulls or sled pulls, the racing diesel guys have been injecting water into the turbo inlet for yrs. This tightens the compressor wheel to cover clearance and increases airflow thru the entire boost map..

the very very small almost insignificant amount of oil pushed thru the turbo after being t'd into the oem injection system is moot.. really moot.
pretty damn good way of doing it and no stress about excess oil.. where's excess going to come from.. that dinky little pump ?? no.. I was using them for the race sleds, set on wide open at all times JUST to have enough oil to feel safe.. enjoy the benefits..

From what I gathered from previous comments the oil isn't being injected into the inlet. Oil is supplied to the top oil port in the turbo via the oil injection pump, the oil Drain on the bottom of the turbo has been blocked off.
 
This is interesting and I think I'm starting to get it. So where does the turbo get its oil from - like T'd into an existing line? Or does it get a dedicated port from the injection pump? What keeps the oil in the line to the turbo without it draining back into something lower (if its tied into another line). I would suppose you would need to fill the lines with oil before riding? Or is just filling the bearing cavity of the turbo enough for a while till the line is purged?

I would assume that since the bottom is capped off, all that is needed is enough oil to keep the cavity full of oil?

Is this for ball bearing turbos or journal bearing turbos?
 
That makes sense Cory. From what I know, journal bearings need a lot of oil. A lot more than an injection pump can give it. Is this right?

Yes, and even more than your average electric oil pump. You need a pretty healthy oil pump.
 
the nice thing about ball bearing turbos addict,, since last yr I have been using an oem mikuni single outlet fuel pump to feed OIL to my turbo !!! more oil than anyone would ever need from that little fuel pump..impulse means NO electrical draw AND instant filling of the oil lines when new.. just like it does filling carbs..LOL

it gets better.. every yr it gets better. Now with the dual ceramic ball bearing turbos on e bay for 500 bux how can a guy go wrong ? wish I was more open minded .. now I too am an EBAY turbo lover full season from 8 to 24 psi.. 500 bux for a 3071 gtx billet all the bells and whistles.. to your door..

Friend got a revised set of instructions from boon.... Still not sure if the turbo literally has to burn the oil off or If the seals bypass enough oil so you allways have a little fresh oil coming in.
