Negative Reputation Points

The rep system is cheap entertainment.....though there should be accountability and your name should be left with the rep given. That would help fix the cowards who lurk on this site and give red rep without signing their names.

That or just scrap it, it really doesn't mean anything anyway.

Sorry Pj, not true! There are always whiners. You know it I know it. There is always something to complain about!

If the vote is stay or go.....................I say it should go!!!!

I agree, if someone wants to call me an idiot, they should have the balls to tell me who they are. Personally I don't think that I am an idiot. I can be an a$$ at times :D but not an idiot.:beer;

And these comments come from individuals that spend their time stressed out over what someone they don't know, have never nor will ever meet, thinks about them and their abilities to accumulate a row of worthless green weinies? That is truly a sorry state of affairs and a testimonial to the troubled times in which we live.:face-icon-small-sad:rose::eek:

They should make the giver of the rep visible good or bad...of course that would all but eliminate people giving red of course! ;)

BigDarrin, I say keep it.

And for those who have red and wish it to be green, just ask. There are a hand full of use who can reverse quite a few red squares with just one click. And most of us with that power don't give out red.
I'll be in the trash bin if ya need me.

There's nothing wrong with a system of giving rep. It helps motivate members to higher standards & can be a small reward for extra effort in helping others. The negative at least provides a track record of those that are not well behaved members or provide incorrect or inflamatory posts.
The problem here is the design of the SW system that accumulates rep at a compounding rate. The more rep you have the more rep you can give creating a disparate system.

Some thoughts:
1. All rep is one point & includes the user ID. Leave the 1 point per 1,000 posts & the 1 point per year of membership.
2. Get rid of the red & green, just show the rep total for each user.
3. Set some standards for giving rep, maybe suggestions on how the system should work. Giving rep to someone you don't like or disagree with isn't acceptable. Rep should be for the content of the post, i.e. helpful, well thought out or stupid, inflamatory, etc.
4. Need a longer history of rep that can be seen by all members-say the last 20. This would help someone looking to buy in the swapmeet from the member. You aren't going to duplicate the Ebay system so keep it simple on SW.

IMO don't get rid of rep but fix it so that it serves the purpose originally intended.

That is fine and dandy, but for all the losers that rep for the sake of repping:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:. I make a comment that gets a certain group member's panties in a wad, and I get a surge of bad reps, then I post that I like red and then I get green.. It is a joke.

I agree, let the reps be public. Let everyone see who issues the reps and what exact post, good and bad, with the comments and I can guarantee you will see a better result. A public forum, with public info.

I have been accused of giving a neg rep that was unacceptable to someone. That "someone" posted that false rep on a thread, Big darrin discovered it wasn't me, but "that someone" making it up and that guy got himself turfed. If that is not a good reason why the reps shoud be public, I don't know what is. It says a lot for credibility.

If not, just scrap it. I believe it is a chapter in the book of why many long timers have left.

I tried to get the most red last week and everybody voted for me now apparently I have a reputation beyond all repute. I asked for red and got green, I wasn't trying for reverse psychology, and I am still the SLEDIOT.......
