Need some info on welders

lifetime welder here. if you are gonna do it go inverter. you get ac/dc-ep and most have freq starters built in. the power of these are un real. I have a ranger 10lx that weighs 1800lbs and a ready arc 400 that weighs 25lbs....the ready does way more. you can do it all off of one of these.....mig, tig, arc, air arc for hours on end they are amazing. just a feeder and a spool gun a a tig torch and a few bottles and you have a full on fab shop. serious power in a little package.

I have used just about every brand made. red, blue, yellow, green, white.....if it is pro grade you will be happy. stay clear of chineese knock offs.

Lincoln for arc, Miller for mig is the only way to go, i'm not a welder but 3 people who have been for over 40 years ALL say this. Have a Millermatic 180 and it's good for small stuff around home, and any monkey can mig weld which helps. Arc is by far better, but it takes a lot more practice to be decent and if your just doing small things a mig will get it. IMO if you want a stick, a old Lincoln is a great machine, the one I learned on was over 50 years old and worked like new, they are tough machines that last forever!

You don't need to take a class to learn how to mig weld, just read over the manual very well for the do's and don't and practice for five mins and you'll be a pro :p

only thing i have to add make sure your welder has a decent duty cycle. got a little miller tig and we run it on max welding the 1/8 aluminum on the sled deck and with a 20% duty cycle progress is slow.

duty cycle is based on 10 minutes of welding 20% = 2 minutes of welding per 10 minutes.

Do you run yours until the temp light goes on?
