Need more torque from my chev. any ideas?

what one are you wanting? the 88-93 12valves were all mechanical 94-98.5 were also 12valves but had mechical over electric ip's 98.5-02 had the vp44 pump and a weak steering box. 03-07 ( i believe) were common rail with a cp3 pump and 07-present are the 6.7's. i dont like them i think there junk but thats just me

I like it I think I'll do that with an intake and headers then maybe add a cam later on. Thanks to all those who lended useful info.

From what I hear. That Black Bear tun if much much more than any bolt on. The biggest thing (I think) is getting rid of/taking most of the torque management out of the puter.

If you plan on the custome tune, I would call Black Bear before buying all the add ons to make sure they will work/he can tune with them.

You also might be happy as he!! with just the custome tune......?????

I drove an 07 mega with the 6.7 and the auto with manual override and loved it. Still cant decide between that and an 06 5.9 though. Either way it will be a mega cab.

I have an 03 chev silverado 1500 with the 5.3 motor. right now its stock except a lift, wheels and tires and a gibson exhaust. With the sled season rapidly approching I need some more torque to help pull me up the canyon. I dont have the cash for major things like turbo, supercharger, head work or a motor. I was kinda thinking about doing an intake, headers and ignition upgrades but would like some input for someone with more knowledge than me. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I know its not the best set-up for towing but its just temporary till i can get a diesel

Greetings Duddin,

Offered for your consideration -

Headers:
To achieve maximum torque look for a header with the longest tubes and smallest diameter for your engine. Big tubes short in length provides horsepower gains.

Intake Manifold:
Dual plan provide torque advantages, as opposed to single plane for horse power

Not on your list of options and similar to the other recommendation to change your gear ratio's would be a Gearvendor overdrive/splitter. The Gearvendor would be of no use if your in four wheel drive however. Not cheap. With some pre-planning Gearvendor could let you know if their unit could also be used on a Diesel as you state that is your plan moving forward. You could pull the Gearvendor and re-install on your Diesel down the road.

You can spend a lot of your fun dollars pumping up a small displacement engine chasing torque, but there is no substitute for a big displacement engine. If you love to pump up your snowmobile engine and enjoy that kind of rush I suspect you will be disappointed with the performance of your current power plant. Save your fun dollars and in a couple of years buy the Diesel, in the mean time leave five (5) minutes ahead of your friends.

No matter which way you go have fun.

Craig.

I had a 2000 GMC with the 5.3. I had a 4" lift and 315's. I have a K&N airfilter, dual exhaust and the hypertech programmer. It actually towed pretty good for a small block Chevy.

I have the Edge Evolution in my 08 Chevy 6.0 and it pulls like great for a gasser.
