Need help with Gear!

Hey guys,

I have been shopping around for gear after I just bought my first mountain sled. I will be riding backcountry in Colorado so a lot of powder. I am having a hard time spending $300 plus for a jacket or a pair of bibs.

Can someone offer some advice on some gear that will keep me mostly dry but will not break my bank?

Thanks Guys

If you don't want to break the bank go to the Clothing section in the Swapmeet and look for some good used Klim gear. I am sure you can find some good deals!

Shoulda gone to Haydays. I got a new Polaris Pro Gore-tex jacket for $40. Regular $350. Head over to Ken's Sports and check their closeout section on Polaris or Klim gear. Make certain you get waterproof and uninsulated.

Buy used if money is tight. I just sold my bibs and coat for 140.00$. Arctiva coat and Skidoo rpm bibs, they werent the top of the line but plenty warm and dry.

Coat and bibs. Klim and motor fist. I currently wear Togwotee bibs, and split time between a powercross pullover and a motorfist recon coat. Just bought a klim storm coat. I hit the close out sales for a few dealers plus first place parts, snowbigdeal and Amazon. I have never paid over 200 for anything. I have klim gloves right now, but probably liked my castles as well. Always have 2 pair and change after lunch. I wear cabelas extreme boa boots. Love them and 140 bucks. My helmet is a hjc clx mx I paid 89 bucks for.

PM me if you are interested in a Klim Valdez or Tomahawk jacket. I believe they are both size large. The Tomahawk is in really good condition in color black. I just bought all new Klim gear myself. It really is the best in my mind.

We have all Klim gear too, it is awesome but you guys don't pack a small tent, tarp and such?

We always ride in the mountains with a full survival kit, axe, fire starter, tent, tarp, candle, pocket stove, and some emergency brick type rations. In addition we carry the avalanche beacons and poles in our backpacks.

I have had both sleds break down toward the evening 30 miles from the truck in -10 temps. Luckily was able to get one going.

There are a few things its WORTH breaking the bank for.
Your clothing will KEEP YOU ALIVE, when the fecal mater hits the rotary oscilator, and at some point in your mountain riding it WILL HAPPEN, the clothes on your back may well make all the difference in the world on how you do over night...

KLIM comes in 3 flavors.

Brand new 2018

2017 Non-Current Holdovers from all dealers

and SWAPMEET used Gear

Our Swapmeet is probably the absolute CHEAPEST way to get gear, but if you have a SNOW SNOW in your area, that is the first place I would go shopping for a full set of gear. If you are buying a full set, you WILL be able to HAGGLE and negotiate a better deal, and there ARE some VERY good deals to be had at the shows if you shop hard!

I have been wearing the same Bibs and Jacket for 5 seasons, KLIM is very well made and will last a long time if you take care of it!

I have ridden with lots of people who wore run of the mill bibs and coats. They soon notice at the end of the day their butt is soaking wet and those with good gear are dry. These people initially balked at the price of good gear, but upgraded to better gear when the seen the difference.

Country Cat. Always good deals on close-outs and last years gear. Prices are ridiculous for new current year stuff. But in the snowmobile world if it doesn't have a ridiculous price tag seems most people wouldn't buy it. How could they impress their buds if it was a good deal ;) Ebay is another place. I remember when we were young and had myself, the little woman and 3 kids to outfit every year, that's how you learn to look for bargains...

Cheapest way for gear.

Buy used and last year models.

Layer clothes so don't have to buy multiple jackets and bibs.

Microfleece is our friend.

Cheapest way to go
Mickey mouse BATA brand military boots on ebay 50 bucks.
Merino wool socks or synthetic $10
would buy snowmobile pants GORETEX or Event fabric or your but will be wet -HMK KLIM Motorfist used $80
if you have to get marine bibs $50 ... I use in spring.
Snowmobile or motorcycle all synthetic jacket with no insulation usedfor $80
Layer with microfleece shirts. $8 clearance at Sears
If you go with non motorized type jacket and pants they will tear up in the trees.

get a motocross helmet new $60 and seal off some of the vents tape or silicon
snowmobile , motorcle or ice climbing shell gloves and put a glove in there.
Buy various weights thin and heavy of
Baclava hoods $8 each
breathable gloves various weights for weather. $5-$15 each pair

Goggles ... get dual lenses so they don't fog up. $35 scott 89si to 509 Aviator $60 and 100's in between and beyond

Backpack .... whatever $10 - $100
Cheap pair of sunglasses $2 UV ABC etc.

Id say for $300 to $400 for a HEAD TO TOE complete setup bargain basement gear setup

My crew rides with Klim stuff and I have ridden in HMK stuff for about the last 10 years and it preforms amazing for the price. I have used their bibs, coats and have a Monosuit and they have all been amazing! Picked up the mono at the snow-show last year for like $180 brand new. Too me boots are about the most important part, you can layer under your riding gear to your preference of warmth, but for here in Colorado for the last 10 years I have had great luck with HMK gear, don't feel like it's Klim or nothing.

Last year HMK stuff can be had on places like eBay for $125-$175 per piece.

There are some great companies out there that perform as well as Klim at much less cost. FXR, HMK both have great stuff that will keep you just as dry as Klim and motorfist at a fraction of the cost. Don't be afraid to try something because it doesnt cost a fortune, most industry specific companies produce pretty good stuff and I have found I like certain things from every company. I love Klim gloves and bibs, Motorfist Coat, HMK boots, 509 helmet. Nobody pays me to wear their clothes so I will wear what works best for me.
