need advice

i have been a polaris man all my years of sleddin and have not ridden anything else other than polaris, i just recently sold my 05 rmk900. I had my heart set on a dragon 800 but Unfortunatley where i live there is no polaris dealer so service is kind of pain in the *** so now i have been lookin at the cats. has anyone ridden both the m8 dragon 800 or even the m1000 and know how they compare. any advice would be muchly appreciated.

thanks all

I am not trying to sound like an *** but there are TONNES of threads on here answering your exact question. Just have a look around. Both good sleds but the Cat is King

I too have been a Polaris man all my life. That said, if I were in your shoes with no Ploaris near by, or a bad dealer for that matter, I would have no problem jumping to a new cat, or even god forbid, a Doo. The new sleds are all so equal, that it all comes back to your local dealer. Those in large towns are blessed with many dealers of each flavor so it is not that big of deal. When living in a rural area, and having to either ride what the local dealer sells vs. friving 3 hours to get to one, well that is a big factor. You will learn to ride what ever flavor you get. The cats and poo's are the most similar with the xp's being the odd duck. Not to say the xp's are bad, just different than what a poo or cat rider has become used to. Good luck with your decision, but This Polaris rider would become green in your shoes.:beer;

I've come to the conclusion I'd rather have my sled ready on my schedule then wait for a dealer no matter how good or bad.. I say get whatever you want and pick up a set of tools!

thanks for all the input so far, i really like that dragon 800 but have been hearing really good things about the m8...i think this is goin to be a tuff decision, also if anyone knows of a good deal on either in around alberta please let me know

Look real hard at the 09 m8 as it is out performing the d8 in every aspect, also go look on the polaris site and see all the 800 motors that are going. Just saw yesterday that polaris just issued a recall and are replacing the new single ring piston of the d8 with the old 2 ring 800 piston in an attempt to fix it. The m8 is solid.

MX,

I used to ride poo.

is that for the 08 D8 or the 09 D8 because i have heard rumor about an issue on the 2008 model but heard they fixed it for 2009? and i went and looked at a 09 M8 HCR today ....pretty sick looking machine

Flip a coin- you will be happy on either one.
Kind of like trying who to ride, Carrie Underwood or Jessica Simpson.

The biggest differance between the two is the ergonomics, the seat and handle bars on the Polaris are quite a bit higher. I'm tall, I like the way the Polaris fits way better.

hmm, have ridden quite a bit with an 09 m-8....and it has nothing over my 08 d-8..it has yet to outclimb it, handling is very very similar, and reliability wise...hard to say with it in its first year... I will say it is a great sled..but no way can anyone who has seen them on the same hill at the same time say that one is totally out performing the other..and as for the piston deal..that was a mispackaged piston....if I was in the market for a new sled I would personally ride all sleds that held my interest and make my own choices accordingly....

M8 all the way

Go with the M8. Rock solid and you will never wanna go back. The 1000 is nice but a bit heavy in stock form. Plus the 8 just feels snappier. My .02
