Need advice bad

replace the filter for sure...(at least pull it and try blowing thru it, check fuel pressure, and check injectors, also I just sold my dragon, with slp pipe, april flash and pc-5 controller with slp's map on it..sled runs great.....(the april map is slightly richer in the midrange...so any pc-5 map will work with it..its just going to be slightly richer then other maps..)you have a fuel supply/pressure issue..hence burning down opposite cylinders in 2.5 miles....

Cooling system was bled of air before the ride. Was reading 127 when it went down. Around thanksgiving last year dealer put the april flash in and then january in togwotee it siezed half mile down the trail. Last week put in the PMS/MTNTEK fix and within a mile or so siezed again. Never had the PCV on with the april flash, only last season with the old flash. Everything leads me to believe bad flash but dealer says april flash is awesome?

Vertical Xtreme:

Call PMS Polaris and talk with there service department, You have got some great input so far with this thread but you most likely may have other issues?

Sorry to hear about your melt down, I know it is the cause of a big head ache. Good luck and if you need any more help or info just let keep this thread going. We would all like to know what happened now as well.

Logically is seems it would be the flash, but I do think that there is something else going on with the fact that it seezed so soon. What told you that it had scored the pistons, or was it a complete seize and motor died?

Shadow, the motor was running fine and just like that tight. Pulled rope right away and no moving it. Couple seconds later it was loose. Piston scored on corner of intake side and opposing corner exhaust side. On a good note the cylinder looks like a little acid and honing and it will be fine.

I'll call PMS in the morning and see what they say. At this point I just want it together so I can get it traded off. Depending on what my dealer says it probably wont be a polaris as much as that hurts to say. I've ridden nothing but polaris for 15 years:face-icon-small-sad

So you say light honing with acid makes me question what was done with the cylinders the first time it was rebuilt. Anyone actually take a bore gauge and see what is going on? Are the cylinders egg shaped or barrell shaped. Are they tapered from wear larger at the top than the bottom or vice versa? Maybe creating a tight spot in the cylinder making it look like it was lean. Just thinking of ideas for you, dont know if it makes a difference or not but its something to check. I have seen brand new cylinders from polaris out of spec so thought Id ask.

Start with the easy stuff like previously stated. Pull your fuel filter and see if it's plugged. Tell us what pms says also. Keep us up to date!

Just want to get it together right so i can sell it and walk, no run away from the poo 800! Dealer absolutely says can not flash back to old flash?

Personally I think it would be unethical to sell a sled to someone else that you suspect would not make it more than 2 miles down the trail before it breaks down.

Considering all of the problems I read about with the Polaris 800 engine on this forum, I certainly would not be rushing out to buy a new or used one.

My old Polaris 700 is very reliable. I think I will keep it around for a long time.

Not thinking about screwing anybody on this sled at all! Want to give it to the dealer that wont do anything for me. And the cylinder came from mileneum technologies. Was in spec.

Called PMS today and he said bad fuel filter or possibly flash didn't take right. Took off the filter today and could blow fuel thru it but it wasn't easy. How hard should it be? Like breathing through a small straw? By the way, thanks to everyone for the advice and help trying to find the solution. It makes the situation a little easier to deal with!

Vertical Xtreme,

I think you have a plugged filter. I have a bran new one sitting in my shop,so after reading this I went out to try blowing through it. It took zero pressure to blow through it. I could breath through it no problem. It actually flowed very easily. I could blow as hard as I wanted with little to no restriction. It actually flowed a lot better than I thought. If its wet with fuel I think it will probably be a little harder but I am guessing not much. Maybe try letting it dry out and see how hard it is to blow through it.

Are you also 100% confident of the throttle body boots? Most of the time you can't see the tear or splits or even the de-lamination around the ends until you get them off the sled. I think they are only $80.00. You may just want to buy a new set of boots and put them on when you have the sled torn down. I would also highly recommend egts. Keep us posted

Vertical, I previously also had a melt down due to bad fuel a few years ago and found my fuel filter restricted after the repairs were made, this fuel filter is surprisingly more over priced then usual like $80 or so

How many miles are on this sled?

You can run the PCV with SLP's flash with the April Flash. It works great.

I think as important as proper fuel flow is for the survivability of this motor, a simple pressure monitor that measures the drop in fuel pressure across the filter would be nice to have. The more the filter is clogged, the higher the DROP in pressure through the filter. I've forgotten the equations, but mathematically it could be determined as to what the danger zone would be.

Sled has got 1100 miles. Always run 91 octane without ethanol. Gonna put in a new filter when its back together and check the fuel pressure. Told dealer to put in new filter at thanksgiving last year but i guess they decided not too!? Hoping they step up a little on this and help me out.

I know the part # to get the reflash, its just my dealer wont do it. Allready have a 3 hour round trip to dealer and found out they probably aren't going to do anything. Asked for a new filter at thanksgiving and figured they did it but they decided not to change it.

If you want to ship your ECU to MN I can have it reflashed for you!

I'll let u know. As of right now my dealer isn't any help as they don't even take fault for not putting in new fuel filter even though I asked. Guess I should have looked it over better when I got it back.
