Need a good sled for the girlfriend

This might be better off in swapmeet, but more people will see it here. I'm in need of a good sled for my g/f. She just got into the sport a few years ago. Looking for suggestions from my fellow snowestr's. Like to see her on something pretty stable, and reliable, with enough guts to serve as my backup sled. She's currently riding a '96 Indy 440 SKS. She's not really liking it (says it's too tippy). Did I mention I don't want to spend an arm and a leg? I'm not brand loyal, so hit me with your best shots.

My first choices:
99-02 600/700 Mountain Max
93-94 XLT (I'd like to stay away from the 600's)
97-98 600/700 RMK (I've got tons of indy parts laying around)
670/700 Summit

I'm in northcentral MT so if anyone has something a trip to Great Falls/Kalispell isn't out of the question.

my girl rides a 99 mountain max. Never needs work pull and go. enough power to get her or me anywhere. And there a cheap buy. M6's and some others still are pricy if your tight on cash. She lovers her mm700

My sister in law rides a '00 MMax 700 and loves it. She puts alot of miles on it a year and can afford alot nicer sled, but thats what she chooses to ride (her husband rides a Blade).

01+ MC 600 EFI, would be my first choice

cant go wrong with those MM except they are heavy.. but a good sled.

00+ 600/700 RMK

00+ 700 Summit

Could not agree more with these picks ^^^ ^^^

Had the 2001 600 mountain cat and my gal loved it... while I rode a RMK 700 at the time.

She has rode several other sleds but there is something about the MC that feels more stable for her. You can get one in great shape for under $3000.00

Mountain max 700 would be my choice. They are getting to be fairly cheap to get into, run like a top, require little messing with, and respond to mods quite well if she wants more sled as she gets more experience. Seems to be quite a few of them up for sale now with people going to the 4 - strokes so you could find one in just about any state of tune. Stockers to full mod sleds and like I said earlier they are all relatively affordable.

When thinking of purchasing a sled for Wife, Girlfriend, Etc. try to remember that most women( not meant offensively) want alittle more on the comfort side, electric start, reverse. Remember if she enjoys it more, and that's what you truly want, then you get to ride more often, and she understands the need for modifications. Just passing on info that has worked for me. Oh Yeah, and if you really want to impress her, spend more on her sled than yours. Trust me it works to your benefit. rpmbci.

Wife likes the MTN Cat

I upgraded my wife to an 02 Mtn Cat 600 EFI 144. she loves it.
It has the wider ski stance, so it's not so tippy.
I geared it down, but an ER kit on it and it hauls.

She tried a rental Polaris in the Horns last year, and really disliked the rider position. However that's a personal choice.

And of course, her's look's better than mine ;-)
Tip: work on her's first

Good luck

The summit 600's with SDI are awesome sleds. Start 1st or second pull even when rolled, cheap on gas and oil , don't stink and go good in the pow. Oh yeah and I have a few 07 still for sale.

For what it's worth... my husband (bless his heart) snowchecked me a 05 Ski-Doo 600 HO Summit. I hated that sled. For me, it was too tippy and I had to rap it up all the way to climb etc. Found myself either stuck or upside down all the time. I'm not a real aggressive rider and it was a bad sled to learn on. I switched to a 02 Arctic Cat Mnt Cat 800. It's piped, shaved head...makes a great spare sled! It made all the difference. It's stable, has all kind of torque, I can follow just about anywhere now. My advice would be don't go too small, just because there is all kinds of power doesn't mean it has to be used. I've now added a Boss seat and 5" bar risers and I LOVE it! Being on a good sled will really improve the confidence of a new rider and makes it sooo much more fun! My kitty cat ends up going every ride whether I do or not because anyone can ride it.

i have an 04 1m mountain cat 144 track, ridin hard but has never broke on me, new chain and gears evey year, riser on the bar can and pipe... i just broke my arm so i am out for the season.. 4000 canadian

my girl is riding my backup 2006 REV 800 151X and she seems to like it quite a bit. The REV platform is a little different at first but if she is new to the sport that isn't really an issue.
