Necessary Tie Downs?

Hi all,

I have been hearing alot about tickets being handed out for improperly secured loads.

Just wondering if someone can give me the rules for securing of sleds in an enclosed trailer. I don't need to know what people think should be done, but what the law says. I am interested in Alberta and BC laws.

Thanks to anyone that can help out.

they ticket you for what's in your trailer???

I throw a strap over the track in teh back of my truck and one through the bumper in the front... sled doesn't go anywhere

Hey there Bud,
DOT say must be held down front and back if you use superclamps but if you use tie down straps they must still have there weight rating on the tag plus they want you to use four corner tie down procedure. Two at front and two at back. I have the Superclamps and like there ease of use and they hold down sled real good. With being a truck driver I want to stay away from straps as I have to deal with them all day long every day.
Last season I had a friend have his trailer pull him down a mountain road backwards on ice off the road and into the creek at the bottom. When the tow truck finally got the truck and 24 foot enclosed trailer out of the drink all four sleds were all where they were before the accident. Lots of damage to truck and trailer but non to sleds.Excellent investment that may also save you a ticket. DOT and police have had enough people dumping their load on hiways. I hope this helps as on other threads this turned into a chit flinging conversation.Last season also came upon a truck and enclosed trailer that had been blown off the hiway on hiway 22 south of Longview Ab.I think they were coming back from Crowsnest Pass when a gust of wind blew the trailer onto its side in the ditch. All the sleds were crushed on one side of the trailer. What a mess. No doubt a very expensive mistake.
Happy Safe Sledding To All

Cheers,
Dave
