My M7 Bog Is gone. I figured it out!!!!

My 06 bogs once in a while, never consistent though and usually only a small bog, but for sure noticeable. Was bogging lots last weekend in deep pow.

I mounted a switch on my dash for the fuel plug out of the ECU, the one that you're supposed to unplug if you use ethanol blended gas. When unpluged the ECU gives a 5% increase in fueling across the board. Now I only have 3 days of riding on it since I made the plug switchable (so I dont have to pop the hood all the time), but when I switch it as if the plug was unplugged the bog is gone.

I did the switch for other reasons but found this out when trying the switch in on/off settings while playing to see if I noticed anything else as a result. Well, the bog goes away as it had been bogging with the switch off.

What plug / wires do you unplug for the ethanol fuel? I knew there was a plug but was never sure which one it was?

Thats the one, mine was a total beetch to unplug.

CalgarySledGuy - thats a whole lotta snow in the front of your hood man, you running DS hood?? Mine with a DS hood did the same thing in heavy powder to the point it push through into my airbox and would sputter the engine.

Im running the stock hood. I put some frog skinns on the front holes. It has help alot. But its still getting in there on the front. There is a pretty big gap on my hood and bumper. When it warms up i might try putting some stick on foam or siliconing it and then cutting it after it drys to make a seal.......

I also stuffed foam around the airbox.Can kinda see in the picture. Like you sayed the snow was pushing through my airbox under it and causeing a sputter. Since i foamed around the box it has been perfect. But yes i would like to stop that snow from coming in....:beer;:beer;:beer;

I riveted about an 1 1/2" tall strip of rubber matting inside where the hood hinges and have been snow free since.

Sorry to have the change of topic here everyone.

The snow-pro front bra's (can't find the part no. now...) work good to keep all kinds of junk out (sticks, leaves, snow, small animals...). I had a stick push my flex duct off one day and could easily ahve gotten snow into the airbox.

That pic looks different than my '08 M8. Do all M's have the "ethanol plug option"?:o

The new M's (07 and up I believe) don't have the ethanol plug.

Good post about the hose. I checked mine after reading this and it was melted shut. That would explain why my altimeter was never even close.

Another chime in for this thread.
Had a guy at work with a 06 M7 with a bog and I told him about what I read in this thread with respect to the barometric pressure tube filling up with snow and ice.
He sleded yesterday in deep powder, had a bog and thought it might be a clutching bog. So he thought for the hell of it checking the tube. Sure enough it was plugged with snow and ice. He cleaned out the tube and re-rerouted along the wiring harness by the steering post and said the sled has never ran that good since he bought it new.

So, does this go for the M8 as well gentlemen? I just happened upon the post and walk out to my shop and saw that my tube is also pointing down to the belly pan. So, should i pull it our and run it along the wiring harness that goes next to the steering rod and oil reservoir? Thx

I sure would pull it out and run it along the wiring harness like the pics on page #1. On my 08M 1000 my has pointing down in the nose the same as you described and mine was plugged with ice and snow in the tube. Mine did not have a noticeable bog but it was really inconsistent throughout the day of riding. I can't wait to try mine with the hose re-routed.

so my box broke and then i tore my sled apart for other reasons. but when i put it back together i just used some sealer on the box to hold it together. it broke right by the tube. also can you guys blow air down the tube? mine i cannot, might be the problem
