Spin off topic from bashing those damn pesky golfers.

So the question is, even with Stewart growing up(RLG says so) will MX ever see a champion in the sense that JM, TP, Ward or Henry amongh others were.

Meaning will we see a return to champs who understand how important fan interaction in the pits, beyond the 20 minutes of autograph sessions is?

I just started going to races, but I've only seen one guy stay out under the tent long after the big guys had stopped(both Kawi and Suzuki had 20 minute limits and you needed a ticket) and that guy was K-dubb.

Last year K-dubb was just sitting out relaxing(didn't even have his marker out anymore) and I had my daughter in the pits and asked if he would sign somethign for her, the guy was more then willing to do that and ask how the day was going, etc. That to me is what even the GOAT was missing. And from what I hear, he never really seemed to have that kind of attitude. Granted it's their job to race and win, but has the sport changed that much since McGrath that riders can't be distracted anymore?

My wife has been around racing since she was a kid and remembers TP sitting outside of the pits in the main area of Spring Creek and talking with everyone and being called twice to the starting gate before he left.

Going farther back, she watched Decoster race, Ward, Henry all those guys ans she can't remember the damn race, but remembers sitting on their laps for pics, playing on the bikes and even camping by them.

So will we ever see that again? Or has MX gotten to big and to factory and money controlled to see this again. And if we do see it, who will it be coming from? I know I'd much rather see this kind of environment when i take my kids out. Last year K-dubb was just sitting out relaxing(didn't even have his marker out anymore) and I had my daughter in the pits and asked if he would sign somethign for her, the guy was more then willing to do that and ask how the day was going, etc.

Ok rant over.

The bigger it get that what you get. More and More presure on these guys. Need to do what the big outside sponcers what them to do. The AMA also makes it harder, You need to be in the start aire 10 mins before the start or you lose your gate pic. so no more calling them 2 times. It is way more pro like now. Thats what big money does and now it get way more TV time so things must be done diferant now. We all want thye sport to grow but with it things change too.

Ive seen much of the same, I dont think we will see champions like they used to be at all. It has gotten too big. I was at the Billings hillclimbs a few years back and met McGrath and Ken Faught, they were great gave my son an autograph and said we could come down to their trailer and check things out. He was riding a vtwin...I think it was a Harley, at the climbs and let us check it out and was a great guy to talk to. He was all but out of supercross by then except for some of the bigger races so it was nice to see him just out having some fun. I think he actually took 2nd place in his class, not too shabby for his first hillclimb competition.

Back to the subject tho, maybe Im just getting old but I havent even been keeping up like I used to anymore, seems to be all about the money and not the fans now. After Carmichael winning it Ive all but lost interest, didnt Chad Reid win it this year?

yeah reed won sx this year...wish K-dubb would have.

RLG, I can't remember, is AMA still running Nationals or is that all Daytona now? Will we see a rider who doesn't heed his sponcesors, ala McGrath leaving his factory tent when they told him not to sign autographs? I guess will there be a group of riders who realize that yes the money is nice, but the companies need them to make the money, and who will be less of a factory man?

I will venture that the AMA is glad TP isn't around anymore. Hell they had enough troubel with him pulling that backy at SX on the parade lap.

One of the best adds I've ever seen was after that. I think it was Cernics who had it. Showed how the AMA got pissed at him and then the big words all over the ad said, "sometimes it's easier to ask forgivness then permission".

I've been watching Supercross and MX since J. Stanton, & JMB raced. I loved watching D. Bradshaw, & J. Ward race. Those guys raced more for pride. Wasn't near as much money back then as there is now. For once, I have to agree with RLG, and I think the sponcers have a lot more to say on what the riders do, and for how long they do it any more. If Bubba goes SX only, it won't leave too much for people to watch outdoors. I think they should make it one big series, and not divide it up. If you want the #1 plate, you have to race both MX, and SX. With RV moving up next year, it might get interesting again. He might be the only one who can challenge Bubba for a title.

I remember the days going in the pits and BSíng with any pros. now it doesnt matter if you hold a pro lisence or not, the big guys are just too special. Kinda like snocross is starting to get now. I dont go to races much now, due to this BS. and I have alot of buddies with thier pro lisence to just walk in with, but its just not as fun anymore.

If Bubba goes SX only, it won't leave too much for people to watch outdoors- i gotta disagree. With bubba gone and all these hot lites guys coming up the racing is gonna be awesome, not just watching one guy lap everyone.

I agree, the racing will be better, but when your watching something knowing that the best in the world isn't out there, it just isn't as fun. It's like watching golf without Tiger & Phil, LOL! Yea, it's usually closer, but you know your not seeing what the bike's potential is. Bubba pushes his bike like no other rider does, and it's fun to see him clear jumps that nobody else can do. I wish Read, RC, K Dubb, would go out doors to give him some competiton again, but it's not happening. Hopefully RV can challenge him, and he rides next year in MX.

I don't even watch it anymore. I was lucky enough to see both Carmichael and McGrath race before they were done, so i'm happy. Bubba is an arrogant little *****. With Ken Griffey Jr. being his uncle you think he might have some manners but i guees not

your not seeing what the bike's potential is-mcgrath said it best...nobody can tap a 450 to it's fullest potential. Even Stewart has more then a little left from his bike.

I liked the battles more than watching the guy in the lead by 20 seconds. I remember watching some guys in 9th and 10th battling it out and it was the best.
