moving to alaska

im moving to alaska in october and i need a job and some were afordable to live can any one help with some leads im going to fairbanks or anchorage i would like to work for the pipeline any one have any info

I know the easiest way to work for the pipeline is through the Laborers union, unless you are an engineer or something like that. The problem is you have to be a resident for a year before you can join the union. I have known other guys that have gone through this also, some people have worked for home depot or other jobs like that for a year till they can join the union.

You don't have to be union to work on the slope. Lots of places are non union. Look into both and go with which one gives you a better deal.

Anchorage is going to have a decent run for the next 2-3 years, there are a few new commercial buildings that should break ground this fall/ next spring. Good news if you in any of the trades. Along with the 2 new fish hatcherys (one in Anchorage, one in Fairbanks) and various other projects it should be pretty busy.

I see that Enstar is hiring engineers for thier pipeline project.
