Motorfist Clothing

I have been checking out a few different clothing options for this winter and i had a friend recommend looking at Motorfist. My buddy mentioned the clothing had a 106 year warranty, but when i look at their website all I see is a blue bird warranty. Is that the same as the 106 year warranty? Can anyone shed some light on the difference?

They have gone to a new waterproof membrane this year called eVent. It is a great membrane for breathability when you are sitting idle, but it loses its effectiveness once your metabolism increases. It does not seal seams well and does not laminate to other textiles well. A lot of manufactures have gone BK using this product in the past 10 years in the hunting and skiing industry due to its poor durability. eVent does not warranty the membrane nor do they control the process or quality of the products being made using their membrane. I think Klim tried this membrane several years ago and if what I read is correct it about BK’ed them. I have to ask myself if Klim used it and decided to switch to Gore which is a much more expensive membrane and requires a ton more work to get approval to use, why they would make the switch if eVent worked? That may be why they changed the warranty on their website.

Motorfist warranty

Thanks handfullthrottle for that insight. Thats pretty deep i must say! Btw what does BK stand for? So is there a difference between their old warranty and this new one other than its just for the new membrane they are using?

EVent has the same quality controls on their membrane and in fact is currently winning in all other industries awards for thier products. Go to eVents website a see.

MotorFist has a loaner program where basically they will get you a loaner iten while yours is being fixed! So you DON"T loose on day of riding in the gear. Pretty cool. And on top of that it is still the longest lasting warranty at 5 years in the industry.

Some eVent news. looks at the high level praise for the product. eVent vs Gore looses in most cases. Event works better AND is as durable=. Which all the below test confirm it has over real world test applications.

Here you go:

YOU MUST WORK FOR KLIM. GO FIGURE :cheer2:

Any more opinions? Im getting new pants this year and was leaning toward eVent from polaris, but was considering Klim, (uninsulated). Keep em coming, snowest riders R&D is priceless

Yeah, Give MOTORFIST Pants OR Bibs a try. YOU WONT REGRET IT. Their clothing is very tough, very dry & they have the best warranty in the industry. TOP NOTCH COMPANY. If you have researched E-Vent and believe in the product then go for it. Motorfist is your answer.

My Take On It

YOU MUST WORK FOR KLIM. GO FIGURE :cheer2:

"HandFullThrottle" does not work for Klim (I asked everyone in the building) but I do.

He is correct however.

We did try Event, it had a propensity to delaminate, tear, fracture, pinhole, and altogether fail in a short period of use. It MAY hold up OK in another application like skiing, but it does not hold up to the abuse snowmobiling provides.

At the OR show in SLC there were some ski companies using a demonstration that forced air through Event membrane from below and you could watch it bubble through the water on top. This was supposed to demonstrate breathability. What is being demonstrated is that Event is not 100% windproof.

Finally Event does not hold seam tape well; it peels and opens the seams to water intrusion.

It is Gore-Tex that NASA trusts to provide material for their space suits.
Chemical and biological protective suits are constructed using genuine Gore-Tex materials. Imagine the trust needed to walk into a hazmat situation.

If you were to have your Aorta repaired it is a Gore-Tex product being used.
I am not going to stand in line for a vascular graft if they are using Event. And if I would not trust my life to it in that scenario, why would I trust my life to it on a sled trip gone wrong?

If it has to be trusted, to be windproof waterproof and breathable; and to remain that way far into the future- in our experience, it must be Gore-Tex.
Gore undeniably stands behind their product offering the "Guaranteed To Keep you Dry" Promise. I have seen them stand behind that promise with certainty, most recently a Search and Rescue volunteer from North Ogden, Utah with TEN year old bibs.

We are not compelled to use Gore-Tex, we choose to do so because we trust it.

92% of all Iron Dog racers trusted some Klim product in the 2010 race. To my knowledge we didn't let any of them down. We don't intent to.
Quality is not ingredient only, it is a process. But why start a quality process with a compromised ingredient?

This is just my thoughts and experience. Perhaps one day there will be a membrane superior to Gore-Tex. It just isn't today.

See attached images. Six samples exposed to wear simulations; each one is comprised of Gore-Tex on one side and Event on the other.

To me, (and I've used event products with success, but can't say it's better or worse than gore) it ALL comes down to a company backing their products. That's what I look for in everything I buy. From chopsaws to drills, clothes to snowmobiles, it comes down to someone standing behind their product.

I'm not posting here to blast Johnnylingo, I'm just curious to hear his take on how things seem to have taken a turn for the worse as far as products being properly backed from Klim. I think that issue is what opened the door for Motorfist to succeed based on a promise that they will take care of their product.

I'd rather see both succeed based on both doing a great job of taking care of customers & producing a good solid product, but right now that doesn't seem to be the case consistently.

This year my money will go to motorfist, because I feel that when their jacket wears out within the warranty they will stand up & replace it.

I will chime in here....I ride in as unfriendly of a sledding enviroment as you will find..alaska..every weekend all winter most winters(5-7000 miles when trapping),facing temps as cold as -60..commonly in the -30 to -40 ranges..dealing regularly with overflow.. and sometimes just flat breaking thru ice on the river...for years I have used goretex gear..and been thankful to have it..but last season I tried e-vent..so far..after a full season of use..I do feel the event does slightly out perform goretex for my use..I had zero issues with either breathability , water intrusion or material failure...the event flat out works..

Interesting that Johnny lingo hops on here to try to disparage Motorfist's choice of membrane, but won't take a minute to address the real issue which is WARRANTY. I was hoping to hear something that makes me feel like the next time I buy something from Klim that it would be backed by the company properly when something goes wrong with it.

Johhnylingo...why jump on a motorfist thread and start stating that they use inferior materials? Especially after stating you work for Klim.

If I owned the company I would ask you politetly to refrain from representing it on the web.

IMO...nothing makes a company look worse than trying to put down their competitors. If the product you are making is superior it will speak for itself.

But since I don't own the company....and appearantly you got something to say....please keep it coming, your regurgitation of usless facts to prove your point is amusing.

No way...gortex in space...along with all the other 30 year old technology the aging shuttle is equiped with....sweet.

:crutch:

If the warranty isnt any good, who cares if the Gore is better!

If the garment fails in 2-3 seasons and is not backed by a warranty, I'll look elsewhere for a company that does back their stuff with a warranty!
