Seeing that he is coming off an '02 (or newer) 800 I dought he wants to go older or smaller.
So for around $5000 the clear choice has got to be an '04 (or newer) 1M 900 or King cat. But if you want the newer chassis' you may have to spend a tad more.

Get the Dragon, won't have to change your SW name. Since 06 Polaris has been the 2nd most reliable, Yamaha first, Cat a close 3rd & Doo a distant 4th. Try to find any factual info...it doesn't exist. Just, what you see & read & ownership tends to slant everyones opinions.

For the most reliable. I don't think you can touch the M7 or M8. I have never seen one towed out. Always run good.

Ditto on the M-series sleds. Never seen one on a rope. I usually see a couple of doo's every ride (on the weekends anyway when there's lots of people out.) along with a smattering of polaris and yamaha sleds.

Scratch that... I did see an M7 on a rope. It was Nate's... notwithstanding the fact that it was a full-mod turbo and the only thing wrong was that he snapped the steering column off with his chest. It still ran but it was easier to tow it.

The 05-06 M7 is one of the most reliable sleds ever built. I have 6000 hard kms and the sled just keeps working better and better. 2 pull starts down to -40 and its never been on the ugly end of the tow rope.

i ride with sledhead 699 above and my dad who both have that exact sled, taken a hard beating by both of them... they keep coming back for more and make sick power for what they are

and the KK900 in our group is amazing for what it is, never really had any problems with it, hes had a little issues with his power valves, but then again that sled is also on its second bulkhead.

im not a artic guy, but the m series sled is a good sled, the 7 is underpowered compared to an 8, but they have a nice ride and keep going.

stay away from the kk if you can get a m sled, the chasis is worse than your edge. it feels like a 57 caddi driving down the road. big and bulky compared to the m.

i ride a doo.
