Monte Cristo Parking Lot

We have been up to Monte Cristo 3 times over the Holidays. It seems like the effort to keep the parking lot cleared isn't what it has been in the past. It took us two hours to dig ourselves out last Wednesday. On top of that someone hit the side of my truck and didn't leave a note. I'm looking at a total door replacement. I've heard they have a new vendor this year. They plows were just sitting up there. There was a tow truck up there offering to pull people out for $250. I thought that is what the $5 fee was for. Any one else having problems?

We've only been up on weekdays and it's been a freakin mess then. I can't imagine what it's like on a busy Saturday.

Did they groom since last Tuesday?
Parking lot was not too bad, but that was before the storm on Wed.
Was up there and it was a motocross track, jumped off into the woods can not imagine the road to Curtis Creek. :face-icon-small-con

We got stuck Friday the 31st and was able to get the ranger to pull us out. Then later that day we pulled someone out
Went back up Saturday and it was still a mess( BUT the best riding day this year) It also looks like they aren’t grooming much, but I heard someone say the groomer was broke not sure if that’s true.

I had to chain up in the parking lot a few wks ago and then last wk tried to take the family up the trail after riding the 120's around near the parking lot. Only made it up a 1/2 mile before I turned around. That was the worst I have EVER seen the road. The woops were freaken 3 ft deep. Ended up riding across ant flat and that road is plowed down to nothing there were cars and trucks driving on it. This is the first yr in a couple years that I have bought a season pass and Im regreting it! And I have already used it 4 times:(

And as far as the tow truck is concerned F%&K HIM!!! Sledders have always stuck together!!! You see a guy in trouble help him out!!! It just might be you next time!!!!

Sounds to me the tow truck driver might also be the guy that is suppose to be plowing but its more profitable to just pull them out then plow the parking lot.

I'm still trying to figure out what the $5 is for if they won't maintain it. It's a huge mess on the weekends, and of course there are always a few sledneck brainiacs that feel its OK to park in the turnouts. Stay away from the place.

In my opinion, you shouldn't have to pay to park anywhere, it should come out of your snowmobile registration fees that we all pay every year. What does that money go to?? Mother nature maintenance fee?? BS.:face-icon-small-con

Agree 100% Help the next guy out, cause if you go enough, it's not a matter of "if", but "when" it will happen to you.

I buy a pass every year. I've been up there 6 times before christmas and only seen them plowing once, but have yet to see the groomer. Kinda pisses me off a little.

I went 5 times last week and none of them were to monte, I didn't feel like testing out my suspension nonstop for a couple miles.

Anybody we can call, not to unload but to get some info on what's going on?

A cpl years back we were spring riding up there and ran into a state guy outa the shop in Huntsville. There was a ton of asphalt to ride on to get to the snow and we asked him when the gate was going to be open. He was very helpful said he would open it and just put a sign out that the road was closed ahead. He said the gate is there to help keep the dumb asses off the road and they only keep it closed to help the sledders out. I don't think it's their job to plow but it is a state truck that is there taking money at the booth!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the fee more expensive a couple yrs ago?? I didn't ride their at all last yr and was thinking the one day pass was $7 and a year was $70.....could be wrong.

Still cheaper than launching a boat at pine view!!! I wanna say a yr pass their is almost $200 and if you go out on cemetery point the city set up a booth and collects a fee then you pull fwd and pay to get into the lake!!!

Ya I have helped and been helped.
A couple of years ago it was $8.00 a day and I can not remember the season cost. I too bought a season this winter imo it is cheap for $40.00 and three vehicles can use (not all at same time) so friends with different work schedules share it.

We are going to keep tossing a couple of snow shovels in the bed of the truck. If someone needs help and we're shoveling - the service is free! By the way, the idiot tow truck was having a problem not getting stuck himself. I didn't see anyone dumb enough to pay him. We all worked together and got out after 2 hours of shoveling. I heard the same thing about the trail snowcat. We were in 4 foot drifts all the way to Arbs. I was just getting po'd about the 5 graders sitting back by the maintenance shed.
