i have good luck with this stuff called Imitrex spray but it is expensive as heck. Thank god for a good Rx benefit on my wife health insurance plan.

also have tried a medicine called fiorinal I believe but it doesnt seem to work as well as the imitrex spray.

My wife gets real bad migrains (puking and stuff). A cocktail the doctor told my wife to take and she swears by it.

2- Extra strength Tylonol (sp?)
2- Ibuprofen (sp?)
1- Gravol (motion sickness stuff)

Then have a nap, depending on your tolerance for medication you might not have a choice!

Maxalt dissolvable wafers work best for ME. I've been through so many different medications....the docs always want you to try this or that. Long process sometimes to get something that actually works. The Maxalt wafers are spendy too, but for me, they almost always work (don't work as well if I wait too long to take them).

Good luck....migraines are NO fun!!

My doc told me when I first feel the little beotch coming on to take 2 Aleve and if this doesn't work I use the imitrex pills and they seem to work great. I do not get goofy or tired (yes they are spendy too). I am pretty susceptible to meds, so this is a relief. Otherwise, as nice dark room and sleep. BTW ~ I always wake up with a migraine hangover the next day. Might as well have drank a 5th of tequila, which would be a lot more fun. :sun:

Tried all of the above at one point or another, and Imitrex is the only thing that works for me. I take half of a 50 mg pill and it takes an hour for it to go away.

Believe it or not the best remedy is to get a good feel for your bodies hydration requirments. I used to get migrains all the time when I was younger. At a point in my life they just stopped coming on, and now I suffer with 1 maybe once a month and this is usually because I didn't drink enough water during the day. The only liquid I EVER drink is water, and of course beer/wine/whiskey in the evenings.

advil

On the first signs of one coming on ,such as my eye sight going to tunnel vision or my hands or face tingling. I take 6 advil and just sit back with my eyes closed for a while, I have not gotten a migrain for 3 or 4 years , it has stopped them all , and the best thing is I dont feel sick after taking them like the other meds they give you

How come we can't have our max thread back???:(:(

Ahhhhhh.......the migraine hangovers! I can tell people that, and they'll look at me like I'm crazy. They have no idea what these things are like!

That one has nothing to do with me. I wasn't around when it went away. I'd say probably by what I saw before I was gone for the summer....it was the peeps popping in to cause trouble that made it go away. Lots of complaints (mostly by the troublemakers)...and that made the Max Thread a a problem to try to keep up with. Again.....I had NOTHING to do with it.

I get the imitrex in mexico for about half the price as well. Cut them in half and they are 1/4 the price (Its about $70 for 8 pills, cut them in half and I have a year supply).
I think the zomig actually works faster for my migrains, but they both take the migrain away in an hour. Never been sick or sleepy off any of the pills/dissolves, or nose sprays.
Again, your best bet is to figure out what brings them on, and this usually involves maintaining your body (ie: blood sugar levels, eating regularly throughout the day, hydration, starches) You want to do this anyway as once your in tune with your body, and can identify its needs, it will be easy to maintain a healthy lifestyle (can't stress this enough).
