MDS weight in PROR - Belt heat? Spring problem??

I am running a set of MDS weights in my 2012 switchback 800 136 -1.75” lug. I’ve noticed that since I’ve introduced them into the equation, I seem to have a little more belt heat than I’d like. I’ve also noticed that RPMs will fluctuate depending on the nature of the terrain…..sled seems to have a hard time keeping revs up in deeper snow.

I suspect the MDS weigts are over-powering the secondary forcing it to upshift a little too soon flinging the secondary open into a higher gear to soon. From that point, it has a hard time to recover.

Removing some tip weights didn’t seem to make a difference so I suspect it is the secondary spring causing the grief. Sled is running the stock Team secondary spring - blue/black (123-203). Was thinking about going up to the 140-220 (black green) or the 155/222 (Black) or even the 160/240 (Black/purple).

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have the same sled but turboed with MDS weights . I have 1600 miles on the same belt , seems to work good

what elevation? im running mds in my pro rmk at 1600 ft. Have a white epi primary, stock secondary. running hex with washer in tip and drilled button with washer in tip. Runs 8300-8400 on pack and 8100-8200 in snow. Havent tested how hot my belt is but 400+ miles and belt still looks brand new.

Running 110/290 as per steve. hex and washer in tip only. Middle empty. Same elevation as you. Saskatoon, eh? ;0)

I suspect that with the 1.75 lug track, aggressive weights and my light secondary spring, it is the culprit.

Your secondary stock runs a 155/222 with 54-42.36 helix. My helix is more agressive, but your track is longer and deeper. Your also geared down more than I am which will also decrease some load on the secondary. I'm geared stock - 1.64. Tried gearing sled down to other ratios (1.69 and 1.74) and only resulted in more track spin. (as side by side testing with another stocker proved)

I don't think the primary is a culprit in this at all. Sled revs and pulls well, but when conditions vary, the backshift is lacking and the motor works too hard. The weights aren't too heavy, as it will rev well most of the time......tried removing weight from the tip and outcome was the same.
