Well I pretty much had my mind made up on a Camo extreme 2.25" for my little (under 150 HP.) sled. Know after this post I am not sure what to put on. I am here in Idaho and ride pretty much light powder. We ride hardly any groomed trails. I think I am still leaning toward the extreme 2.25":):)

Well if you are really mostly riding light powder the Mav will serve you well and you can find them at like 1/2 the cost of the extreme.

Not sure why you'd take a 2.25 over the 2.5.
95% of the people I've heard from love the extreme and will be putting one on every sled they have from now on...until the NEXT best thing comes out.

2 1/4" or 2 1/2"...

I wouldn't be against the 2.5" over the 2.25". I would have to go with the 7 T. drivers over the 8 T. with the 2.25". I have run the avid 7 T. before with out a problem.

What track came on the m-7 and m-8's if you didn't get the attack 20? Was it a 2.25" extreme or a 2.5"?

If all you ride is soft snow, and you have a lower HP sled (below 170 or so), I'd stick with the 2.25 also. The 2.5 weigs 9 lbs more and has slightly worse deep snow manners. I run (ran!) the 2.5 on my 07 & would never switch back, but on my 08 the 2.25 has done well. (my 2.5 is still going on that sled next week) You'll lose a touch of track speed on any sled with the 2.5, but on a lower HP machine I think it would be too much.

After seeing the power claw (have to buy it from AC) I will try that on my 09, it seems like the best compromise out there.

The extreme (according to TracksUSA) is only 6lbs heavier. Porting and removing some clips will make it almost as light.
I've talked to guys who put them on their stocker and said it's like adding 20hp cause you get the power to the ground so much better...this was going from a camo 2.3 x 16 track

I agreed, i'm not in west, different kind of snow here in North Quebec, but i have a 162 x 16 x 2.5 on my Rx-1 N.A and this track get the power to the ground like nothing else. Its really feel like i have more power, track perrfom way better than my old 2'' challenger in deep deep snow, but yeah, she trench until she reach something harder. In every other condition, its a no contest with the maverick. The Extreme (at least here) outperform the maverick all the time except on trail, and probably the challenger 2,25 too (except for track speed).

Need good ratio (with a new chain), good clutching and AVID sprocket (on a yamaha otherwise stock or Wahl, will last 500km) With low HP (140) i lost 20 km/h on top speed vs my 151 x 16 x 2. Boondocking with this track is like riding a Bulldozer, the track get traction even on tree and even with a Rx-1

We have 2 nytro both with S/C on them from the same outfit. The one guy HAD to have a 162 and put the mav on. I rec. that they both go to the 156 camo extreme The other guy listened and it is no contest in ANY snow the camo extreme 2.5 walks away in the hills and on the lake even tho the other nytro has a tunnel (CR) You can REALLY feel the difference as soon as you pull the trigger the mav spins and the extreme hooks up...The 2.25 camo extreme is a softer track (medium instead of hard)...It don't matter what the snow is like soft fluff the mav does better but is still WAY behind the camo in the set up snow its NO contest

That's good info. I have the Mav on my turbo sled and its worked good for me but I am pretty well set on the 156x16x2.5 for my Nytro.

All of this is real good info, I have always ran a challenger 2.0", and I want a 2.5" and this is just re-enforcing that. Anyone know where to get one for a halfway decent price?

so it begs the question....

I'm putting a new mav on my apex, do I put it normal or reverse rotation?

sounds like reverse is better, but what about the scary-a$$ downhills - are they any worse?

Isn't the Mav a hybrid paddle/finger track?

It seems like the power claw is another attempt at that.

Depends... how much mph you got , what snow do you usually run in? It all counts to what track you will like best. Many will tell yu the mav sucks but unless you are running a turbo Id disagree and know ppl who have taken Extremes off and went with Mavs.

I was going to say the exact opposite.
I know of several guys around here who got rid of the Mav and went Camo.
Stock Yamis with the Mav.
Never looked back. Dry Montana powder.

I know people, myself included, that like the finger in the powder.

No One who's ran both would ever say the Mav compares to the Camo Ex. I ran both and the Camo Ex destroy's the Mav in any snow conditions. You take off faster, climb higher, float better, meaning you'll get stuck less in simular conditions. Obviously you'll see places with the Camo Ex you wouldn't get to with the Mav, so you may stick it at new heights.

If money is an issue, buy a used cammo ex. The difference is amazing to say the least. At least as good as adding a pipe the ole 2 banger...

rode with a guy this year in montana, thought his sled was modded extremely, turns out it was stock geared way down with the camo ex 162, I forgot about that untill now. I am pretty sure I made my mind up now. thanks to everyone for all of the input.

I picked up an extreme for $499, a little more than I wanted to pay but it looks brand new (clips are not even scratched) has to have less than 200 miles on it of deep pow riding already ported too. Thanks Racinstation for the track. Thanks to everyone else for the imput I can't wait to try it out. :-D

I have put the extreme 2.5 on my last two sleds and will never look back... except to see my buddy stuck half way up the hill! :D No joke, the extreme outperforms any other powder track out there. Like mentioned before it hooks up better, climbs better, floats better, makes small horsepower sleds feel like there on steroids and just flat out works. I will put one on every sled I buy untill something better comes along. Oh and by the way, I live in AK where we get all different kinds of snow. It just depends on where you go riding that weekend. All around best track IMO. :D :beer; :beer; :beer;

extreme

Uh........yeah...... I am most likely the "buddy below me" that HMFNW was referring to in the above post. I have an 05 Rev 800 fairly stock (motor wise) that had a maverick 159x2.3 and when she tore (my fault) HMFNW made me buy a camo-X 162x2.5x16. I'll just say that I have never felt a bigger difference in power to the ground feel than when I swapped tracks. Let me tell you about my lack of talent.... it knows no bounds. This track not only hooks up and rips the bars out of your hands but it also provides what I call "some insurance". It lets me make bad moves without punnishing me for them everytime. Yes if you pin it in the DEEP you might just trench down to Japanada. The great thing is that with the track that long and lugs that deep it will find somthing to grab eventually and then it will crawl right out of the bombhole. My other friends would laugh and laugh at first, then you come flying outa some $#!@ that they didn't want to go in in the first place........whos laughin now. I did port it (2 holes in the center) and removed (cheap bathroom scale) almost 5 pounds of rubber. I also geared down. Doo it and don't look back.
