Mass. finally gets things right...

Impose medical malpractice limits, if you don't like what the doctor could potentially do to you trying to fix your problem, live with problem you are going to the doctor for.
won't solve very much

Allow interstate competition between insurance companies. Competition is good for improved quality of services and lower price of those services. You offer a good value to cost ratio, you get more business, you don't you go out of business.
increased competition with insurance companies has a negative effect. That negative is the decreased ability for the insurance companies to get a low rate for service from a hospital. This is an issue that many many people fail to recognize.

So what your saying is the government should'nt be creating one big band aid fix all for everyone....that the problem lies with insurance, doctors, drug companies, overweight people, smokers, drinkers and the fast food industry? And that's what they should fix...right?
Isn't your statement redundant? Isn't the one big band aid a fix for all those that you mentioned?

This problem is VERY COMPLICATED. There are a lot of reasons why this system is screwed up, and a lot of things that need to be changed. I disagree with anyone that can just point the finger at one specific issue.

It is difficult to change the system incrementally, without breaking down the system. Kind of like trying to change brake pads while driving down the highway...

Good post!! I understand if you eliminate illegals, people who can affort but choose to NOT buy health insurance...there is only about 13-18 million US citizens without coverage....How about we all chip in about $10/year to cover the costs of insuring JUST those that can't affort it and leave the rest of the system alone besides malpractice limits and allowing more competition.

While that might solve the goal of getting everyone covered, that doesn't take care of the real issue here, which is trying to control the outrageous costs that is becoming health care. So much of the issue in the media has been about covering more people.

IMO, this is a secondary and very small issue. The larger issue, is the costs of the care. Medicare and Medicaid will bankrupt the country if costs keep increasing unchecked. This is the main reason why everyone is trying to work out a deal. The insurance companies, the hospitals. This growth is not sustainable. If it goes unchecked, I would think you could see the health care system collapse.

....after 50 plus years of an entrenched political family, change couldn't have come at a better time.
Hopefully it'll slow the ramming of Obama's agenda down our throats and on our backs...

Hopefully just the start of the snowballs roll down the mountain! Last time a GOP won a senate seat there was when Americans totally rejected McGovern.

No....I was trying to convey exactly what you replied. I just believe the govt. mandating health care for all.... or else....is wrong. When the primary problems are out of control insurance companies, doctors and sue happy people...among others. I think were on the same page...more or less.:D

Yah I guess.. One thing though, just because the media is focused on providing coverage for all, doens't mean the bill not trying to solve the problems you mentioned..

True...but it's also is trying to tackle some issues just to get votes...so the bill grows and grows and grows. That's what america see's....
File your taxes and check off the boxes where you want your tax money to go....how would that work???

True, no point getting a good plan if no one will vote for it. Sad that it comes to that, but that is the way a democracy works these days.

File your taxes and check off the boxes where you want your tax money to go....how would that work???
Poorly? Unless you have the box of "back in my pocket" ha ha..

Well I think it's a great idea...the IRS already knows what you owe or not.
So divert YOUR tax dollars to where you want....
Wait...I know....because then you would have to trust the govt. with money and honestly apply it as you wish....dang...I guess it won't work.

So what happens when everyone diverts their taxes to the same thing and they have extra money? Though, honestly, since we are in control of the government, aren't we already saying where the money should go?

We demand the best, but then are upset when it costs us a lot of money. The problem is that we don't always need the best and we are very wasteful.- winner.

though if you were demanding the best you all would be coming to me for your X-rays.

Just a thought, for those who don't want to pay for illegals....how would you propose to pay for your ER visit and surgery, say if you were visiting Mexico or Jamaica and your insurance wasn't valid there for some reason.....and they slap you up the head with a 25k bill. I know it's out in left field but still.....

By going back home to work and paying off the bill....then sue my insurance company....:D
Kinda hard to get my head around that one X.....
1. I wouldn't be in the country illegally....
2. I would check my insurance first, get it on paper that I am covered....

I know what your asking, so I guess my first answer is the answer....

yeah it made more sense in my head last night. I can still see where I was going with it, but that's cause it's me and I think I didn't explain that one good.

although I don't think everyone would be as proactive and check everything first like you.

most canadians and brits that come over here get insurance in the states for that very reason. One mishap and it is costing you thousands of dollars.

So their universal health care isn't so universal....seems to me that the comparison and cost of treatment would be about the same so why do they need a "rider" policy as long as they are paying into the system till they die.

Their policies do not cover treatment in other countries...and care in the states is VERY expensive.

Well shouldn't they....they are paying into their system regardless and they are still a citizen of that country. In essence, to me, what that say's is you have to pay but we won't cover you if you cross the border...wth. Don't they have an embassy in our country.
That's the equivilent of hitting retirement, moving to Costa Rica, and then not getting your retirement checks because you left the country....
