Mass. finally gets things right...

....after 50 plus years of an entrenched political family, change couldn't have come at a better time.
Hopefully it'll slow the ramming of Obama's agenda down our throats and on our backs...

I don't know... I was kind of looking forward to the fact that my health insurance costs for my company wouldn't increase another 20-30 percent this year.... like last year, and the year before that...

The real shocker is that only around 50% of the registered voters voted..

...and that's a tad bit better than 20% at the polls last time.
And those states who's politico's cast the swing votes for Obama to get his health care legislation through by blackmailing the rest of the United States to cover their Medicaid budget.....should be shot for treason and then thrown in jail for blackmail...
Anyone want to start a class action lawsuit against Nebraska...?

Instead you were looking forward to your taxes going up by 3 times that amount to fund a new big gov entitlement and bureaucracy. Here's your sign DA! Do new age progressives actually ever think things all the way through? Listening to the pundits tonight, I think not lol. We have to ram through healthcare if we want to win back the voters. Just like Ruff they still don't get it...

I don't know, when the leading cause of bankruptcy was health care costs, I think that would signify a large enough problem. While the bills proposed aren't perfect, they do fix some of the problems with the current health care system.

My company is worried about health care costs, and is considering dropping us if they increase too much.

Something like 80% of the population already has health ins and are fairly happy with it. Raising their taxes by 3 times the amount their ins premiums went up this year, is going to piss them off. My ins went up ~$65 month this year. I would guess if healthcare passes it my taxes would increase a lot more than that. Now, they can not pay for it by increasing my taxes and continue to raise the deficit but the American people are smarter than that. Giving hand outs to a small minority of the population is not going to win you elections in this climate.

Want to fix health care and bring prices down, stop giving it away for free to the illegals! How about increasing tax deductions for business that buy it for their employees and increasing HSA deductions for individuals and families. Have Gov't stop mandating coverages (having healthy people subsidize those that are known unhealthy).

But its not about health care, its about creating more gov't dependency and giving some pig politician and their bureaucrat henchmen just a little more control over our lives. Then they'll promise (if we vote for them) to give us more to fix the problem they created.

Everything liberals (for accurate depiction we should just start calling them socialists) try to fix just makes the problems worse; Unionized auto, airlines, schools and gov't itself. Higher eduction and the sciences have turned into little more than propaganda and fraud. Liberal hacks have destroyed any sense of reliability in the news. Even Wall Street collapsed under the incompetence of Clinton cronies invading financial services and banking, thanks for your contributions Robert Rubin. And that's not even getting into the quasi gov't bodies like Fannie and Freddy. Heard Howell Raines and Jamie Gorelick fleeced Fannie for $105 million and $30 million while running it into the ground. But what the hell, our liberal Congress just gave them an unlimited bailout.

Can you point out to me where in this legislation that it would stop the increase for a working man? I sure can't find anything in there.....I see
plenty of things that will cause it to go up faster (now having to let
all pre-existing conditions in)...It will definately mean a tax increase
for anyone making enough to actually pay taxes...It will also force those
who cannot afford it now to either buy it or pay a penalty...hello mcfly..
if they could afford it they would have it!

There is more to the bill then increasing coverage to other people... and where are you getting your "taxes increasing 3 times the amount" statement from?

65 / month increase, not too bad for you. You single by chance?

It is around 85% that have some form of insurance. Most are fairly happy with it? Where did that come from??

The illegal issue is only a PART of the problem, and not for all states either.
(having healthy people subsidize those that are known unhealthy).
That is how insurance works!!!

no, that isn't it.. This statement seems to think that the govt is taking control away from you. The problem with that, is you didn't have the control anyways. Your insurance company does, your company that you work for does, your hospital does. YOU have very little control.

and off the deep end you go... I thought Wall Street collapsed due to the derivatives market, that got deregulated under Bush. What about that whole Enron bill that got passed. Yah, that turned out great too...

You had some good points, but this just seems like a rant...

So you want the government to legislate that you can not increase the cost for working man? Like price controls??

Or you get enough people in the pile so
It will also force those who cannot afford it now to either buy it or pay a penalty...hello mcfly.. if they could afford it they would have it!
Yah, that part is kind of stupid. I didn't say I agreed with EVERYTHING, but generally there are improvements being made.

This proves it, Ron White has been right all along.....you can't fix stupid.

Ruffy....so why did your company's insurance go up 20-30%?
Do you work in a hazardous industry and have lots of accidents?
Or did your carrier just decide to jack rates 20-30%?
I don't want to fund your insurance....or Spurs...or bluefluffs or anyone elses for that matter by getting taxed more. I know...I know...I'm already paying in one way or another....but no more!
The solutions I want to see....
1.) Chop the legs out from under the insurance industry...
2.) The courts need to ball up quit allowing rediculous malpractice awards....news flash...doctors are human too and they will make mistakes.
3.) Term limits....no more career politco's...guarantee you the guy from Nebraska has punched his meal ticket for life with the deal he swung....

Not me personally, except for when / if I fall out of my desk chair...
Or did your carrier just decide to jack rates 20-30%?
Carrier increased rates because they are paying out more due to increases in the cost of providing the care.

I don't know about your three issues..
1) The insurance companies are only part of the problem. The other parts of the problem are the care providers, the hospitals are a problem, and the pharmaceuticals are another part of the problem. We are another and largest part of the problem. We demand the best, but then are upset when it costs us a lot of money. The problem is that we don't always need the best and we are very wasteful.
2) Texas solved that problem and premiums did not decrease. IMO it is not as large of an issue as people make it out to be. You are right though, doctors are just people and make mistakes.. yet we still demand perfection.
3) Maybe, there are arguments for and against this issue. The good thing about not having term limits, is that it allows groups to be more easily formed, which is important when you need a majority for things. The problem is those groups aren't doing what they should be doing, and the voters are not responsible enough to remove them like they should.

Solutions for the health care problems;

Impose medical malpractice limits, if you don't like what the doctor could potentially do to you trying to fix your problem, live with problem you are going to the doctor for.

Allow interstate competition between insurance companies. Competition is good for improved quality of services and lower price of those services. You offer a good value to cost ratio, you get more business, you don't you go out of business.

You no pay taxes or have your own health insurance you no get health care. PERIOD!
You not a US citizen, you no get free health care. PERIOD! Had a co-worker with a health issue in Mexico, they wouldn't even look at him until they had his credit card. Let's mirror that practice to all of the illegals here.

So what your saying is the government should'nt be creating one big band aid fix all for everyone....that the problem lies with insurance, doctors, drug companies, overweight people, smokers, drinkers and the fast food industry? And that's what they should fix...right?

Good post!! I understand if you eliminate illegals, people who can affort but choose to NOT buy health insurance...there is only about 13-18 million US citizens without coverage....How about we all chip in about $10/year to cover the costs of insuring JUST those that can't affort it and leave the rest of the system alone besides malpractice limits and allowing more competition.
