Mammoth Report

Here are a couple shots from an hour ago or so.. Surprise storm really caught me off guard the snow was light and fluffy, going to explore the ridge more tomorrow. Sled feels good, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it trudges threw the snow once it settles a bit.

just asking. The sign says snow park (at Tom Place) so I assumed or thought it was for snowmobiling. I'm new to the sport and just trying to find new and exciting place to ride. I played around on Mono Cones last year it was unreal, thought I would try some new places this season.

California SNOPARK's are noy all for snowmobiling.

I did not read in your post about SNOPARKS.

Here is a link to Californis SNOPARK's http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1233

Here is a link to the maps for SNOPARKS http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/pages/1233/files/sno-parks_2008-09.pdf

The map lists detailed descriptions of what you can and cannot do at each SNOPARK.

Where do you keep your sleds?

nice

The Sno Park you saw near Toms Place is on Rock Creek Canyon Rd. It is closed to snowmobiling. Only cross country skiing. Its to bad theres some nice area back there.

How much snow fell in town? Is there enough to ride out of shady rest?

about a foot or so, tough to say I don't spend alot of time @ shady rest in the summer so I'm not familiar with what stuff is hiding under the snow there. I wouldn't go anywhere I wasn't familiar with in fear of finding some buried treasure.

Crowley, why do you ask?

I am trying to figuire out where the best places close to where you live.

There is not much south of you until nine mile road then onto the Sequoia Forest.

The best place for you is Mammoth and more north up the 395.

Mammoth has many nice places to ride.

Here is the website for many California Nevada snowmobile clubs.

http://www.cnsa.net/

There is a list of clubs and you can locate ones close to you and find riding information.

eh, don't let Don kid you, we spend most of our time digging him out. j/k

hope we can ride soon. Bald Mtn is okay, nothing real special, lots of good riding both sides of 395 from Mammoth north. there is little to no riding south of town. Sonora is where it's at for more heart pumping riding, although I've read of some rule changes up there and not quite sure what the real story is this year.

When and where are you gonna go riding?

Bring your shovel and tow rope so I can go , okay?

this week will be a nice one with fair weather and seasonal to above seasonal temps for mammoth.....potential wet pattern associated with major under cutting per ecmwf model and onslaught of lower/mid latitude short waves is still a good possibility for next week per redwood city discussion below.

high this week warming to the mid to upper 40s by tomorrow or wednesday at the mammoth village....lows in the 20s. No important winds this week in town.

november 30th update from redwood city, san fransisco forecast office monday am:

we`ve been monitoring the long range forecasts for a while now for the potential of a major pattern shift to wet weather. The thinking is mjo activity over the western pacific...former super-typhoon nida...a moderate el nino and climatology are all coming together to initiate a potentially significant wet pattern beginning late this weekend or early next week and then continuing. best estimate at this time would focus on roughly dec 7-10th with the potential for a very wet period. That being said the gfs solutions are not as bullish and seem confused in handling a brief arctic plunge of air over the great basin later next weekend. however...if you follow the euro it takes nida (which has been and will remain nearly stationary for the next several days way out near 20n/140east) to south of the aleutian island as a 935 mb low (previous run was 929 mb) by saturday afternoon. ahead of the remnants of nida the west coast ridge appears to break down with 1 to 2 weak storms before the
remnants of nida arrive by around dec 10th. This whole scenario will be watched closely for the foreseeable future. Still too early to issue any hazardous weather outlooks..etc. Will be watching mjo induces and ensemble forecasts. Stay tuned.

Dr howard and the dweebs.....................:-)
