Outstanding!!!!!

I separated from active duty a little more than a year ago, and joined the AK Air National Guard. I feel more obligated than ever to thank my fellow service members when I see them around town. I know what kind of sacrifice they have given, and will give in the future. I can only imagine what kind of experience our vets from other Wars and conflicts could speak of...

Thank you again for your service and your actions are awesome.

OPUS, Let me tell you.....There is NOTHING like getting a care package from somebody you dont even know! It really means a lot to us. It is amazing the kind of support some people can offer.

Thanks again for the post.

that really hits home, my middle daughters boyfriend was just here last night. he is a marine that has been depolyed to iraq for the last 8 months and is now getting ready to go to afganistan. let him know how proud we were of what he was doing, these kids are amazing!!! he just acts likes its no big deal, just another day at the office, wow! the dedication these kids have is just unreal, hes got a job to do and its gonna get done PERIOD, totally blows me away to see someone so young doing something so great...

Good story... More people should act like you.

I have a friend that eats out for lunch with his wife two or three times a week at the same restaurants. At least one of those days he sees a soldier in uniform eating with other soldiers or their families. He makes it a point to shake their hand and tell them how much he appreciates them. When he leaves he gives the waitress his CC# and to pickup their meals, she then calls him later with the amount.

His son is a soldier deployed right now in the Marines for his third time and my buddy knows the sacrifices soldiers make... he is a Vietnam Vet as well.

My wife and I went out to lunch with four of our neighbors today, two couples and us. The little gal that was our waitress looked to be about 16 years old. My neighbor Ray was teasing with her and it turns out she is 24 years old and married. I asked her if I could do dishes because I had forgot to bring any money, she said sure !! Anyway, in talking with her during our meal we learned her hubby is coming home from Iraq in a few days and she was all excited to see him as he has to go back in three weeks.

When she brought our check I looked at it and it was 24 bucks. It was in one of those little black deals that folds over. I put a 100 dollar bill in there and closed it up. When she came to retrieve the check for myself and wife I handed it to her and told her I wanted her to keep the change and when her hubby shows up to take him out to dinner on a Vietnam Vet. She left.

A while later she came back to the table with big alligator tears running down her cheeks and crying. She said that she really appreciated what I had done for them. Then all my neighbors and wife started crying. It was all I could do to not bust out crying. I told her that I appreciated and we all appreciate the sacrifices her and her hubby are making to keep our country safe and I was very damn sorry many folks in this country just don't have a clue as to what those sacrifices really are.

Anyway, I was very glad to make her happy. I wish everyone who could afford it would do something like this for a Veteran or a Vets family. It would really help.

Can't believe I missed this! Way to go AB!!!! You're a stud!

I feel bad even though I did what I did. The poor girl came over to the table and was standing there telling me how much she appreciated what I did and she had big ole tears running down her cheeks, the wife was boo hooing, the neighbors were boohooing and I just sat there telling the little girl that I was the one who appreciated her and her hubby. I should have stood up and gave her a hug instead of just sitting there. But, if I had I would have started bawling too and when I do that I can't talk. I try to treat Veterans and Military people like I would have loved to be treated way back when I came home. Those of us that can afford it should do what we can and those who can't afford "money" should show appreciation to our military people in other ways. Without them, we would have no country at all. Imagine what would happen if everyone in this country was a Liberal. It wouldn't exist. I don't even want to think about that.

I realize we have Democrats who serve in the Military but my definition of Liberal in my mind wouldn't even consider serving in the military. They are maggots living off good men and women who are willing to sacrifice up to and including giving their lives for their country.

Cool story! Good for you for taking the time to recognize the sacrafices that our service man and women along with their families do for our country.

Thats pretty awesome man. Good to know people still remember we are over here.

I should be back home in a couple weeks. Maybe i can still shred some powder this season...

Hardest part is knowing who's over there, and what they need. I figure you guys have better food than 4 week old postal cake. That's why I came up with scifi books, that I was sure they didn't have in the ship's library. But, even that probably wouldn't work in Iraq. We hear you guys are on 18 hour shifts.

Almost everyone in the States cares about you guys. Your not forgotten. Never.

Its really not horrible where i am at. But i suppose you get used to it. I'm inside the wire and i only do 12 hour shifts mostly outdoors so i'm pretty well off compared to some. The food is actually pretty good for being free. Conditions and quality of life is waaaay better even from when i was here in 05. I honestly think the hardest part of being here is not knowing why we are here. Some kind of big picture mission besides sustain. And not some crap that someone made up to justify it. I better quit talking before i get in trouble...Anyway, thanks a lot y'all, it means a lot for sure.
