M8's, low on horse power!!!!!

Thread Rating

still fishing..........................

I think you need some new bait

reliability is good though.
you really think the hard hitting single-ringed wonders are gonna last as long?
its a trade off imo.

Whats with the hp rating on the m8s. that is considerably low when the competion is 10 to 15 ponies larger. 143??? that sucks:mad::confused:

Let's see now, a guy with the name "Redneck REV" picking on us poor little ole CAT guys. :D Hum, what be up with that?

Okay, I'm not sure what bait you're using but I'll bite tonight....slow night, I'm feeling frisky and the wife just turned me down.

This was actually a very well planned, thought out, and deliberate move on Arctic Cat's part.....something to do with keeping the climbing performance and overall ability of the M-8 with-in reach of the other manufaturer's 800 class sleds. Leave it to AC to try and keep it fair and always thinking of the underdogs. :) :)

Sorry to change the subject somewhat, but what I'd like to see is how much torque the different motors make. With the snowmobile clutch and how it works, I tend to think that the torque spec is what really will give you the best idea of how the motor will perform. I bring this up because the M7 is only rated at 140 hp, so 100cc has only gained 3hp? How much more torque does the M8 make over the M7? I think that is where the difference is.

I rode in the deep and steep with all three of last years 800's and they are all very comparable, trading high marks throughout the day, the high marks would change with the type of snow we were riding in, Polaris was most consistant sled, XP would beat Cat when it's clutches were cooled right off, but would really drop off after consecutive runs and could not stay with the cat. Just pick your brand preference, and get out and ride, they all beat the heck out of riding the old Mod sled's we used to build and ride back in the 90's!! lol

A/C's powerband is unlike anyother sled on the market, we had a demo D7 and demo M8 last year and in a drag race the D7 would take the M8 stock for stock.... you put both sleds stock on a hill with a foot of powder and the M8 is 20 sled lengths plus above the D7. although the M8's have low power numbers on paper, and dont really feel like they have all that much power, A/C got it right gettin the power to the ground cuz they climb and climb and climb, i was quite impressed last year

I just have to laugh when I know my D7 has only three less ponies... With that said, I do believe you guys that cat gets the power to the ground better than any other manufacturer. I'd like to ride an '09 this season, anyone interested in letting me try?

The XP is down on HP also. Here's some numbers for you. I think you can gear and clutch any sled to make it feel like it has power. Like the MIGHTY DOO!

Jim mentioned to us that for a normal trail rider who runs on the trail, he can see the pipe temperature during riding being less than what he would run there on the dyno - the engine probably won't make over 145hp. The other runs he did with cooler pipe temperatures were around 144hp.

With 91 octane on my own 08XP800, made 137hp on 1st pull and 147 after a run at the pipe.

LAWL, why cant this argument ever shut up. i'd ride any sled out their and be happy. their all good and you f-in know it. now all you kids stfu or gtfo
