I would go with the M8 if boondocking is your thing. The M1000 will boondock anywhere the 8 will go, but its a little heavier up front. Also, the 2010 M8 is exactly identical in power in an uphill drag race as my 08 M1000, raced them several times last weekend.
Like I was saying my 07 m1000 with full slp pipe and intake mod ripped and my stock 09 would beat it anywhere. Also I road with numerous 08 m1000's with the same setup and I beat them on my 07, only one traded highmarks with me and the guy and his sled was 80lbs lighter than me(he was on a 153 mine was a 162), I am also the heaviest out of them all. But I also know how to make these work. You just need to ride them to see what you want. Search and find FROSTBITES post he was ready to buy a m1000 and then road them and bought an m8.
