OK cat shop guys..............got 2010 pistons yet ? and compared them to the earlier M8 pistons, they are different, but how. Possibly some performance improvement when rebuilding earlier M8's by using later model pistons.

And while you're at it, cyl and heads are different. Please report back.

Good question,

I will be doing a top end job after this season.

Would be interesting to know if I could use 2010 pistons in the ole 2007.

Something to keep in mind is the balence of the rotating mass !

They lightened up the crank in 2010 and probably had to do the same in the pistons to ward off signifigant harmonic imbalence.

Just throwing a set in your old M may not be the best idea till you research that. Theres a reason these motors last so much longer then others, no names mentioned

Very well said, above.

The 2010 porting is different.
The 2010 Crank is different.
The 2010 head is quite a bit tighter 13.5:1 compression ratio.

They are using a balancing weight on the clutch to offset the mass lost in the crank. The pistons will be set up or callibrated for the 2010 crank, porting, etc.

Run the 2009 pistons in the 2009.

if you are thinking of going with a head i have a friend running a amp head reg and clutching on an 09 with no fuel controller and it has been flawless

They are using a balancing weight on the clutch to offset the mass lost in the crank.

They are using a HARMONIC(360*) weight to offset the mass lost in the crank. If they were using a special weight to balance the crank, the crank and clutch would have to have a key-way machined into them so the clutch would be indexed to the crank and go back on in the exact same spot every time.

Talked with a guy in MN who worked for Cat and he put 2010 pistons in his 08 M8.. seemed to go just good! thats all I know.
