Damn, seems like a lot of opinions both ways. I have a little input and most of it based on having both sleds. The stock M1 is a DOG and nowhere lives up to its available potential. With a lot of clutch work, a new secondary (take your pick mine was Cutler) a Y pipe, Pipe, Can, new intake (BDX for me) a fuel controller SET UP RIGHT, a significant diet ie. loose 30 or so lbs off of it, time setting up chassis, and then you have a Good all purpose Mtn. sled, give her some serious porting and head work, you can end up with a 200 hp sled that is reasonably light. Now in the same light I got rid of my 08 XP last summer and by the time it was done it had an 860 kit, Toms suspension on back, Evol R's on front, a lot of Carbon Fiber parts including a CF gas tank etc. weighing in totally dry at 400lbs it was an awesome powder machine, better than the M sled? In some places it was, it floated better and had a better Tractor factor, I could put it in tighter places at a 163 than I can the M at a 153, climbed hills in deep powder like crazy, but was it faster oh, Hell No.. The M side hills better and is a more stable chassis, does not pitch me over the bars as often... Both are good sleds Modded both are great sleds, but are both totally different types of sleds and both do great, but often in different areas, Point and shoot hill climbs give me the M1, four feet of powder all day probably the XP, 2 feet of powder and side hills all day probably the M1, but both work equally well, they just ride very different. It is mostly up to the one that feels most right for you, but both work well. And as a final thought my D8 with a Holz Alpha X on the rear, Holz A arms and Evol R's on the front, and a big blow dryer on the side is more fun than either of them, handles better, is faster, climbs better, just is better, unfortunately it costs twice as much and could melt down at any time, but it is worth it.
