m1000 or m8t

I was the proud owner of the first pump gas M1000 turbo that Shain built, It was without a doubt the funnest sled I have ever owned, It was an 07 also, they have an unbelievable amount of power, I rode with alot of 800cc sleds and after a day of riding, I would be drained. The 1000 is a heavy sled compared to an 800. I sold my 1000 and I am buying an 800, probably gonna do the 925 kit and a pump gas twisted turbo. It should be the perfect balance of weight and power.

If it was me, I would sell both of your sleds and buy an 09 M8 and give Shain a call...

Huh???

call kelsey at RK tek he'll set your 1000 up head, porting and pipe 220+hp I love mine

D and D is claiming 206ish hp at 7800rpm with the same mods, yes it is a different pipe, port work etc. Yes they do run great and there is not a lot of naturally aspired sleds or pump gas turbo's that will beat it, but I'm having a hard time believing 220+ hp... And anyone that gets beat on this setup by a pump gas turbo m7 or pump gas turbo m8 needs to inspect his sh!&, because I have yet to see a pump gas 7/8 or 800 pump gas dragon for that matter beat this setup yet.

I'm lost...are you saying that a 1000 with a head, porting and single pipe will beat a pump gas turbo M8?

We ran a M1000 with Dakota Porting, a head, bikeman single, BDX intake and STM 11" secondary last season. The sled was setup by Jeff at Dakota and it was no match for a pump gas TM8 at 9000'. The TM8 blew by its mark on the hill every time, even with the same rider switching between both sleds on back to back runs. Both sleds were running powerclaw tracks and both were 162s.

put that 200+ hp sled up at 10,000 feet in thin montana air and even a good bd pump gas m8 will beat it. I've beat sleds (cutler 1000) claiming 205hp and I get beat by 09 pg m8's, they just keep pulling on the top end.

If I remember right rkt claimed over 220hp with SW pipe and his porting on the m1000, there was a thread running on it back in may I think.

The 09 m1000 is easier to through around than a 08 m8 in my opinion.

I don't know about the pump gas but I have a D&D 1200 that is tweeked perfectly and don't take this wrong way I love 1200 it is awesome but my buddies race gas M8 at 12psi beat me every time and my 1200 is lighter than his 8 and so am I.....

Keeping the 1200 for this year but last years schooling has made me buy a 2010 race gas TM8

I too can vouch that that a pump gass M8 will out perform my 08 M1000 with full SLP setup and RKT head in everyway. I rode with a couple TM8 last season and it was no contest each outing they flat out run. I know that SLP is claiming that an M1000 with full setup has 190 sum HP and the head is suppose to get it close to 200 and Boon Docker is claiming a little over 200 from a pump gas M8 but they are not even close at elevation. Aside from a naturally aspired sled loosing hp at elevation my theory is that Turbo power is much different then natural power as the Turbos seem to hold their track speed much further up the mountain. I know one thing I can see my self on a turbo in the near future.

Yes the 7 and 8 cats were running boondocker pump gas set ups. Not sure what the Dragon was for a kit but it was not even close on that one. As for the twisted 7 or 8 pump gas kits I have not seen any of these around yet. Ask Kelsey from RKT if a pump gas 7 or 8 would compete with his 1000 port kit...

Do you have the RKT ported 1000 you are talking about? If so I can line up a ride with a couple Pump Gas TM8's and Pump Gas TD8. I'd like to see this thing run, I don't want to come off as being an azzhole, that's not my intention but lets go up on Buck Ridge, the Crazy's or the Bridger's when the snow hits and see what they all will do.

BigHoe,

I don't think you are coming across as an azz. pm me when we get some snow. we can head up cottonwood cr. in the crazies, have a good day of riding and see how well everything runs. currently living in great falls and we make it to the crazies a bit. i like buck but not the buck creek crowds. If you want wait to fuel up and we can all fuel up at clyde park on the way up...

That's what I'm talking about. I'll be in touch after hunting season!:beer;:beer;

This is strait from kelsey

" Actually, the cost is about 1/2 of the turbo kit price... and it WILL run with pump gas M10's all day long since the PG M10 is limited on the amount of boost it can run with stock injectors.

As for the PGM8's compared against the M10... We have done that many times.. M10 is always on top.. Tried to get other forum members to come out for friendly comparisions..

Turbo's RIP but they need race gas to wipe up a proper running big bore. On race gas and big boost.. the turbo's have no equal.. That is for sure.. but at pump gas safe boost pressures.. the Big Bores are in the game and sometimes even out in front..

Kelsey "

wyoboy,

since my setup is d and d and the best running one of the bunch is a speedwork setup, ported by kevin at mountain magic motorsports and yes there is one that kelsey ported and uses his head with twins that runs very strong I can assure you that i did not take any "" from kelsey.

There is no frekin way anyones na 1000 will climb in powder with anything turbo on pg that I have out there they might hang for 200 ft but after that it is all over. and as far as comparing to m1000 pg turbo there is none. the pg 1000 will make 250 hp at 4 # of boost no problem..oh thats at elavation.

kelsey its funny how over the summer you have forgotten our little comparison you seem to change your point of view to suit your side.
why dont you quit fighting it and start building big bores for turbos? then we wouldnt have to read this crap.
back to the post put a turbo on your 1000 you wount regret it!!!!
porting and high compression pipes= 15 to 20 hp tops at 10000 ft
turbo= 80 to 200 hp above stock at 10000 ft.

I am going to agree with most of the others on here. A good setup turbo will not only build allot of track speed in a split second but will hold it if not gain track speed as you ramp up the load on the motor. A turbo system loves a good load on the motor the more the better.

But like everything clutching and SETUP is the key. I can take any one of the kits out there and if say I put a crappy clutch kit in it or forget to simply tighten a hose clamp on a charge tube it's going to lack performance.

If you want some proof do a good search on the forum and try to find someone that hates there turbo and is going back to a NA motor. You will not regret a Pump Gas M1000 turbo

wow, weird how this got so bent out of shape...as stated earlier, shain never seen your pump gas turbo's on any 7's or 8's around here (bozeman). also, no one ever compared a na m1000 to a pump gas m1000, just stating that the pump gas turbo's (7and 8's) that i have seen around would not hold it's own against a good m1000 setup. and as for elevation we only ride 10,000ft once or twice a year the rest of the time it's anywhere from 6000 -9000ft.

porting and high compression pipes= 15 to 20 hp tops at 10000 ft
turbo= 80 to 200 hp above stock at 10000 ft.

I'm going to have to call BS on that. I love our turbo M8, & will probably get another one next year (without that silly long 153 on it though), but I also run with a N/A 1000 that will wipe the floor with most turbos & regualarly does so (MPMINC's sled) There is absolutely no way that thing is only 15-20 hp over stock. I'll admit some of the similar sleds I've ridden with have a lot done to them, but they're well beyond the hp that you're stating & dollar amount they're probably still similar or below a turbo.

I have never ridden a TT PG 1000 so I can't say SH** about them & by no means will I say something negative, maybe they're really head & shoulders above what everything out there has going, but from what I've seen Kelsey's statement is correct or very close.
that said I'd LOVE to get on a TT pg1000, sounds like it'd be well worth the $$$. I'd love to not have to run race gas!
