i have a 07 m1000 and a 06 m7. some guys are telling me to get rid of the thousand and buy a m8t. need some advice, was thinking about gearing the 1000 down sounds like alot of people like it but i have others telling me not to.also what about puting a turbo on the m7 , how much difference would it be from an m8t? they tell me that the m1000 will shell out the motor with a turbo just want the pump gas turbo. so any opinions from guys with experience please!

The Turbo kit on the M7 and the M1000 are close to the same money . If i was you i would do a Twisted race gas kit on the M1. Then you can turn it down and run pump gas all you want , then crank it up for 300+ HP when you can afford Sunoco.

The T M1000 has proven its self , no engine problems if you buy the right kit. I would suggest pistons and reeds every season just to be safe.

I have a race gas M8 , and i am going to a race gas M1000 for next season.

The 7 is lighter by far and generally more reliable than the 1000. It's not always about the biggest motor.

 we dont know what models we are dealing (base or sno pro's) with but i believe they did strip weight from 06 to 07. i doubt the weight between these two sleds is very drastic. in this case, the bigger motor is better. if you want the horsepower that a pump gas m7t wil give you, you might as well put a head and exhaust on the 1000. more reliable than a turbo and you'd probably have more power than a m7t and you'd def have more torque with the 1000 down low in the rpms.

The 05 M7 LE was the lightest M that cat has made, the 06 gained about 2 lbs. The 07 M1000 is the heaviest M sled made. There is nearly a 40 lb weight difference and a 30hp power difference between the two of them. I feel like the balance of the M7 is much better than the 1000. The 06 M7 was an awesome running sled. A piped 1000 will not run with a TM7 at any real altitude. I don't get the impression that he is pulling chutes in Revy every weekend, if I'm wrong then maybe the 1000 is the way to go but if you mix it up when you ride and a little boondocking in the trees, playing in the power, and climbing, I think the TM7 would be the better sled.

its true i dont just climb shoots. its mostly for deep powder boondocking type riding. and i love my 1000 compared to my m7 the weight dosnt seem to bother me to much. i thought about turboing the 1000 but they told my its not reliable as the m8t. it would be cheaper to just buy a turbo vs. sled and tubo i agree. i ride at about 9 to 12000 ft. and i have a slp single pipe kit on the 1000 now. some guys say that gearing down and porting there keeping up with the turbos. thank for your opinions lots of mixed ideas keep them coming

oh and about the gear down, a turbo m8 runs the 57/63 gearing at 200+ hp @ elevation. how is it that i would have nothing to gain from gearing down my 1000 thats probably only @ 160-170 hp @ elevation. i would like to keep it as reliable as possible while adding to the fun factor.

at that elevation neither sled is creating that much power. from what I found the slp pipe doesn't respond to porting as well as SW pipe.
the 07 I had flat ripped, it was one of the best running m1000 out there until it started having trouble, but I would rather have my 09 m1 any day, when it came right down to it it would beat the piped 07 stock, If you like boondocking get a 09 they are so much easier to get around and never stop. I don't know how many times I should have been stuck and started gaining speed again, add the pipe and all the extras to a 09 and you have to have a turbo to beat it.

agree to dis agree then. being a 245 pound guy who loves the gym and doesn't plan on ever getting smaller, i'd NEVER be happy on a 700. my 09 1000 is the funnest sled i've owned out of the 8 i've had. i don't notice the weight diff but that could be because i also am bigger. i would think the extra power of turboing the 1000 would be worth the weight offset.

Turbos

I have had both and both have been very reliable. The m8 is awesome, but the torque of the 1000 is just that much better period. They are both easy to handle once a person knows how to ride. I put 1300 miles on my m8T last year and 650 on my m1000T with no problems. I did get rid of my m1000T though, but that is just because Shane let me ride his sled. Needless to say, but I will be putting a 925 kit on my m8T and going with a 1200T kit on my other M1000. I would go with the 1000 and next year you will want the 1200 upgrade. If you ride a lot you don't have to be a big guy to enjoy the M1000T they are not that hard to throw around.

It's all good, that's the point of the forum. I have had much better luck with M7's than M1000's. I would rather run race gas in a 7 or 8 than deal with another 1000 and the problems I've had with them. I'm quite a bit smaller than you are and I'm sure that makes a difference in how we feel about the sleds.

I have had unreal luck with the 1000 pumpgas turbos , it takes the m8 14 #s of boost to keeep up with 1000 at 5#s at 5#S the motor is not stressed at all they just keep pullin they do not heat soak like the m7 or m8 racegas
less heat = less motor wear and tear if you want to talk to some guys that have run this set up call me I or pm me and Ill get you in touch with them or maybe they will chime in, if you like your 1000 now you will love it with boost!!! as long as you set it up right.

the first 1000 i've owned was my 09. maybe thats the difference we have. i haven't dealt the previous years and it looks like the 09's perfom much better than previous years
