Lost in hole by iron mine last year

All I can say is "that freaks me the heck out"!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek:

I remember reading that and didn't want to ride in that area.

Dang!!!!

Cool pictures though.

Holy Crap, those are some crazy pics.

Seems to me a lot of bad things happen in the Iron Mine area.

NMFH!!!

Hope the dude is ok? Tell me that wouldn't suck and surprise you! WOW!!

So what's with the first picture? He's standing by the sled all "this really sucks" and then the rest of him he is in the hole. Did the hole swallow him up as they were trying to get the sled out?

I know of that area, you just have to recognize it and stay away...

We all got down in the hole and pulled the rear of the sled down and the front up, we then hooked a bunge to the ski to pull him out. Lucky he put all his gear back on, as soon as we pulled on his sled he left the planet and dropped 40 feet. S ome where in the hole he hit a tree and slid down that and then went another ten feet under a ledge, and that is where he stopped.

How far down did he fall?

Man as serious as it was I can't help but laugh.....

It had to of been the extra weight of the NMFH that dragged him down.:face-icon-small-hap

Glad there weren't any serious injuries..

Holy crap! What would you be thinking as you tumbled to the bottom of the hole and finally stopped. I think I might actually cry down there.

That's what i was thinking. Damn NMFH helmet! LOL

The Guy is lucky. I can't imagine falling down a hole like that.
Looks like it's right out in the open too. Hope they mark it this year. Glad he got out OK.

Not funny at all. Some of these shafts can go for hundreds of feet. Good ending though. Maybe the next guy that gets caught in an avi with a mod helmet can get some laughs also.

Some of you might remember or heard of to guy that fell into a hole up by Iron Mine last year, well I finally found the photos. Here they are.

We had some trouble in that same spot a few weeks earlier I think...nobody got hurt or fell in but it freaked us all out. I plan on going up to this spot in a few weeks to cap this thing off so the snow will accumulate over the top and people can still access it next summer, someone falls in this shaft almost every year, I don't know why these things are not marked better or at all.

maybe WE should go cover it...

Does anyone have the Lat- Long of the hole?? we could build a grate of 4x4's and cover it enough that no one drops into it and maybe put up some marking poles out of PVC pipe to warn everyone off.

Should have gone back and read the post from last winter first.

Anybody game to block this hole and maybe post a "DON'T GO HERE" sign at the top of MINGO's Cliff??

I'm a little confused as to why the USFS wouldn't have already done something? Does it have a function or purpose that requires it to be open? With all the $$$$ spent on rescue and injury, why has nothing been done?
