Loss of areas

All this stuff about the mountain caribou going extinct is completely falsified. There is an enormous amount of them in the NWT. I have hunted them and you can see them for days. In northern BC up by fort nelson you can see them frequently. Just because they are dwindling in this range is no reason to attempt to restrict access. It disgusts me that there are people out there who make a point of trying to shut people out of the backcountry. It is for us to use. Most of it is already protected. Recreation leaves a very small footprint compared to mining and logging which are given almost free reign to do business. Tourism is becoming a more important industry in BC, and the government aims to double it and all these stupid and unwarranted restrictions aren't helping. Where do they think the money's gonna come from? Ecotourism?

These closures are just another example of the government looking for an easy target to blame!! And let's not forget they're getting continued pressure from the tree huggers to get all of our areas taken away. Think of what the gov't will lose when we can't head out to our favorite locations...loss of revenue in fuel, lodging, food... taxes that we pay on new sleds, trailers, accessories, and the list goes on. I found this interesting article dated back to 97...but it just shows you how these Caribou have been mismanaged in the past....and now we are ultimately now to blame for their screw ups!! Please read this!!

This article, written in 1997, shows that the caribou were declining rapidly LONG before most of these sledding areas were busy. And they say they transplanted 19 and only 8 survived? Way to go.

this looks really curious to me...the government is going to spend $700,000+ to improve the bridge on the walker forest road to increase tourism and improve access to snowmobilers etc. in the kakwa areas? do they not realize that they recently closed these areas (sande, torpy, walker, etc) to motorized traffic?these are our tax dollars at work!...i'm beginning to think something fishy is going on....two brand new "heavy haul" bridges in a patch of country recently limited to public access? i don't understand the logic and i can't see the spending of that kind of money for improving access to groups that have been locked out either.maybe someone can talk to shirley bond and save tax payers 3/4's of a million dollars here...? there must be some kind of conspiracy going on ... get the x-files going on it or something-:D
