LOOKS LIKE SOME INTERNAL PARTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED FOR 2017

7 tooth 3.0 pitch drivers are larger than 7 tooth 2.86 drivers.......
A small difference.

FYI, the weights are with Avid 2.86P 8T & Avid 3.0P 7T drivers. The weight difference is probably a little more than 1oz if stock drivers are used, maybe 2 to 3 oz difference - whoopy!!!!!!!!

There's not a whole lot of difference between the Avid 2.86 8T drivers vs. Avid 3.0 7T drivers.

Oh you edited your post.
Perfect.

Actually it always stated that I weighed the shafts with Avid drivers. I edited it to make that info bold & underlined. See Timbre's post, he quoted my original post. Anyway, I think the results will be similar, not much difference in weight between the two drive shafts.

Looking at the parts fiche for the '17's, they have different part numbers, so they should be different. But it could just be a supplier change, but built the same.

I agree with supplier change, the RH upper on the '16 now has the same PN as the RH upper on the 17. I imagine the other arms will follow suit as current stock is reduced.

New motor is holding up so well Polaris figured they'd see if they could screw it up.

scary that they have changed crankshaft part numbers. probably a chinese crank to save 5 cents. i would like to know the reason for this if anyone finds out in the next few months....before i pick up my sled...

It's actually North Korean. So over a 50 cent savings. They used the molten metal from all the missiles that didn't work and decided to Make poo cranks.

What actually needed to be fixed in 2017 models...

Track wearing issues... clip every window from factory. I'll take the extra 1 pound to have a durable track.
Customers receiving sleds with visible corrosion in every electrical connector. This is a joke.. fix this. Find a way to keep the water out of the electrical system.
When a customer has a warranty claim don't spend a month and a half thinking about if it's warranty or not because winter is only 4-5 months. Even the best dealers struggle with polaris inability to make a decision on warranty even on things that are obvious.
I'm not a Polaris hater by any means, I think they produce the best out of the box mountain sled. Would have told them this myself when they called me for my telephone survey except they hung up on me after the third question.

They get to continue marketing a lightweight driveshaft to the idiots who believe it, and spend no money engineering a new one. Marketing and Finance trump Engineering.

And don't discount this - if there are any lawsuits filed or threatened for an injury due to a failed driveshaft (loss of braking, e.g.), the lawyers will be advocating no further design change, which could be perceived as a further admission of a known problem. I say further - since the collar itself is at least a partial admission, but a fix that was provided by poo since 13 and has been proven generally effective.

I don't know they spent a lot of time on the Pro to make it light. They did a complete redesign on the Axys to make it lighter yet. It seems to be there main goal, light weight and great handling. So when weighing everything and wondering where they can take more weight out, do you think the drive shaft got over looked? it seems they had money to do a complete redesign on the entire sled so why would the drive shaft get overlooked. Must be there is something there that is that way for a reason or to fix it right just doesn't take the weight off.

I'm thinking that entire harness and TPS comes from china or something. My 2012 has had terrible luck with the electronics. My Axys has been solid.

2012 was a very bad year for electrical. I was on the tow rope at least 6-7 times and sled sat at the shop for 3 months of winter. TPS, wiring harness, TSS, stator, etc. Good thing I kept my M8 so I had something to ride.

My axys was pretty good electrically besides some poor idling and engine dying when going into reverse which got worse at the end of the season.

Luckily my dealer and myself was on top of it every time there was an issue. Never missed a ride because of it or saw myself on the end of a tow rope. However over 4 years I am sure I dropped it off at the dealer 20 times or more.

Made in China is on every part number tag on the PRO ride chassis wiring harness and the quality of the components (electrical tape, etc.) says made very cheaply in China by the lowest bidder. I would assume that the AXYS harness is of similar build quality, although I hope it is improved, but from all the talk of corrosion on the connectors on sleds that are only months old; I highly doubt they made any mandate for improving them. Very sad when everything on a sled these days involves something electrical.

You'd think honeywell would produce higher quality components than they do

On the bold, this really hit home for me as my buddy had tps issues on his sled multiple times and the fix was finally a complete wiring harness. And really in all honesty polaris doesn't have the best track record with their electrical components. How many dragons got new VR's and ECU's back in the day? My buddies 700 got 2 of each.

I agree...for the $13000 that is charged... the wiring harness, gauge, flexibility (strand count) and use of better connectors in ALL of the harness should be improved... has been and continues to be a weak spot.

When engineers and bean counters discuss things... I'll bet it gets heated.

Ski Doo wiring is head and shoulders better than Polaris !!
