wow! awesome snow! im feelin the need for a trip to cooke soon...i have yet to have a good ride in sunshine and good snow...but its still good to get out reguardless of the snow conditions. john, i got a gopro the other day as a late xmas presant but not sure where to mount it. i just got the cheaper one with the curved mount and flat mount. im thinkin about mounting the curved one on the top of my brain bucket and the flat one on the end of the tunnel. got any suggestions for placement for the best view?

I have the curved mount stuck to the top of the lid just behind the visor. The camera eye takes "wide" angle shots so when mounted it needs to be tipped up more then you might think otherwise all you'll see is the visor and whats directly in front of you. Makes it tough when watching the videos back on the pc or tv. In the prior pics mine should have been tipped back just a bit more then it was.

The lid mount is the only one I have ever installed but was thinking about sticking another mount on the back of my pack. Maybe on the shovel handle or something. Others have poles mounted to the front and rear bumpers that stick up 18" or so with the camera looking back at the rider that make pretty cool videos.

cool, ill prob stick one on the lid and one on the back of my tunnel. think it might turn out kinda cool in the trees or something. i may cut up the base of the case it came in and rig it to hang out on my shouvel handle. they are pretty sweet little units

hows hoodoo guys? im thinkin about goin up there sometime and takin a look see and checkin out the area. looks like some beautiful weather for the weekend!

I was up Hoodoo on Sunday and There was around a foot to a foot and a half of Powder depending where you were! You wont get past the gorge cause there was a avy that came down right after the first sharp turn! Just enough room for a sled or a small pick up if your a little gutsy! Had to run about 1/8 mile gravel!:face-icon-small-dis

Dave, Have you been there by chance? Are you looking for places to stay, eat, ride, or all of the above?

I get a bit long winded so just asking before I let er rip or give me a call.

ok.

If you haven't been there be sure to travel thru the park in the daylight hours. Very cool and scenic. If the gate guards have the shacks open there is a entry fee into the park and if they are closed before or after hours you just drive right past the gates thru the park.
I recommend the Super 8 or Antlers for lodging.
Super 8 has nice rooms, guest washer/dryer, high speed internet access, tv, etc.. and next door Bearclaw (same owner) has a great breakfast. Ask to see if they are running any specials on room rates. They gave us awsome pricing if you let them know your on snowest and that we seen that they were running a special in bearclaw bobs threads. Bob has a heated garage if needed. Rents tools and can leave sled inside overnight for $10 if you wanted. Two thumbs up.
At the Antlers I've stayed in the cabins and they are very rustic. They do have a new addition. The newer rooms are nice so if your staying there see if they are available. They have internet access and a nice lodge with the wood stove going. The Antlers have great cooks and the food is very good. Great peeps also. You won't find any better people in town. If you ask Bill and he has time he would be the best for showing you guys around places not many go but be sure to have your riding hat on I hear. I also give the Antlers two thumbs up for places to stay and eat.
The Miners has good food and drinks for after the ride also.

Part 2 later ..... where we ride

x2 on antlers! and if you go for a spin with bill....you better have your big girl panties on and be on top of your game lol. i am speaking from experience lol. Ill be in cooke on the 19-21st. hopfully the snow and weather are good!

So far just my wife and I are going , but half of the rezerve might go!
We better shy away from Bill, and thanks for the warning.

kay told me (snow) Hawk Fest is goin on that weekend so there is going to be a bunch of people in town. we called the Super8 yesterday and they were already full as well as the antlers.

As for the ride ....
We most often leave out of town by going out the back way towards sheep. The easiest way to find the trail is to go behind the super 8 and take a left. Head back towards the school and then take a right. The trail will switchback up the hill above cooke and open up on top of the ridge that has lots of play areas. If you stay left you'll end up over in sheep and if you follow the ridge/drainage on top or to the right you'll come out by daisy. Drop into daisy and crossover the large valley to wolverine or drop off daisy and hook right and head towards lulu. Either way you can loop around and work your way back to town coming in from the main trail east of town.
If you head out of town on the main trail as most due (be sure to go sloooow past the beacon check station as you leave town. The green light means your beacon is on and working and a red means its not) you can't miss the main trails to daisy or lulu and lots of riding in between.
If you do not mind a loooong trail ride to great snow and very scenic riding head out east of town past daisy, lulu, up and over the pass on the main road out of town to the top of the world (this is wyoming and you will need to get a wyoming license for $25 or if you get caught its a $100 per sled). You will go by a parking area (parking lot for guy's coming in from wyoming) and get on a trail system behind the parking lot and that will take you all the way back out to the main hwy. Ultimately you will end up on top of the beartooth pass if you go far enough with huge meadows, hills, lakes, views, etc... Takes all day with a gallon or two of extra fuel just to be safe but worth it if you have never made the trip before I think. Lots and lots of big open play areas once you get past the motel/store thats on top of the world.

Try the Alpine next. I've stayed there before too. Never stayed at the Soda Butte but might try them.

Thanks I didn't mean for you to reveal top secret info. I will call and forty question you some more.

LOL ..... No top secret info but would hope if you make it you guys find fresh snow without it being all tracked up. Give a shout before you head out.

I don't think Quinton will go, last time he hit the end of that chain in the yard
he hurt his neck. It 's worth a try though ,that crew is a blast.

Anyone know a crank rebuilding outfit in Missoula or nearby? I may have lost a bearing in my 800.

I'm still figuring out where I can get work done around here.
Any help would be appreciated.

Had a great day sledding today! The snow was good. and It will be better tomorrow cause it was snowing like crazy when we left! Oh yeah rolled my sled twice and broke a tie rod end lol! Rode it like I stole it!

Surveyor was socked in something terrible all day, but still fun. I think Westmont tried to sucker us into "The Westmont Bowls", but I didn't fall for his tactics. We all got to pick on a turbo.:face-icon-small-win
Off to the hot tub!!
