It's vacation, right?

Your gonna pay 1 way or another. Been going to Tog for 10 + years, there were some some problems back about 6 or so years ago, been worth it since. Derek Thompson& Liz McCarty are great, along w/ Beth & housekeeping, Stan C., Joe H. In the rental/ repair shop.
All the guides are gonna see to it you have great time, there tips depend on it, that's what they do.
So if your on a budget, maybe you should get cabin and do your own cooking, but the lodging & guides are well worth the money. Otherwise you might need to stay because there's nothing cheap about sledding.

Crooked Creek is a great alternative!

:face-icon-small-hap Why don't you try Crooked Creek Guest Ranch as an alternative to staying at TML? They are on the same CD Trail System that TML is on, just closer to Dubois. You ride right from your cabin to the Warm Springs parking area & they are at 8500', so the snow is good. All the riding areas are accessible from there and there isn't nearly the crowd.
Great food & bar, 24 hour fuel, individual cabins, along with a few larger cabins that accommodate bigger groups. A staff that makes you feel like family and treats you individually. You can't ask for anything more!
Their number is 888-238-2647. Call them to see if they have room.....sure beats trailering up from Dubois every day! Plus, they do have guides available, too!

we stayed at lava mtn lodge in the big house. We stayed in the big house and brought our own food and drinks and was very affordable. Biggest thing was we killed powder everyday and only had to ride a half hour to get there. If there was any fresh snow it wouldn'd have taken us that long. Will definently stay there again.

i agree with montana94 crooked creek guest ranch is an amazing place we had a group of 7 and stayed in there big house slept all of us with more room to spare had tv for when you just want to relax at night and the people are just amazing there not to mention you can tell the story of how a moose ate a cookie out of your hand. lol

There are a bunch of different options when riding that area. Yes town is a hike but you have tons of options from Union Pass, Warm Springs, Lava, TwoOcean, to Tog. Lava Mountain Lodge is a great place and reasonable. We have even stayed at the B's cabins across the road. She was nice to us but is NOT liked by the locals one bit. Line Shack has been great to us over the years and so has the Saw Mill (might be closed). We have never stayed at Crooked but they seem really nice and their place is very nice. It all depends on where you want to ride really. When it hasn't snowed in a while sometimes its best to get away, not closer to TML. Just depends on the conditions. The whole area is awesome with every possible type of terrian. I find new stuff every year and have been there 17 years in a row.

Crooked Creek area

i have been going out to the union pass area for almost ten years. Some years the snow was not as good as others but never had any issues with finding deep powder to play in only with in 15-20 min ride from the Crooked Creek area. We stayed at the Line Shack for several years until we found a house to rent a few door down from Crooked Creek ranch. We love the house and the set up. Cant beat it. We also head towards the tog area once or twice when we ride but have found way more people near the area, than over by the Line Shack. I guess it also has to do with what you like to ride in. what ever you choose, be safe and smart and have a great time riding.
