Lightest M sled and How did you get there?

Who has the lightest M series and what did you do to get it off? I would like to know what others have done to go above and beyond just the seat, can and shocks. Pictures and description welcome. With the guys I ride with jumping ship and buying XP's I would like to stay on cat, but would like to get the weight down.

I put a mtn fit poly carb hood, with vent kit, 1 small 110 watt driving light on the bars, digitron, and a piece of flow-rite over the intake, and that lightened it up almost 20 lbs, and cost me about $300. Rode the sled over 3000 miles and not one problem.

hmm chris buradnt rides a 440 lb turbo M8 in slednecks 11, i have no idea what is done to it though.

it aint hard to loose a LOT of weight on an M, pods and a can are worth almost 20 pounds alone. my riding buddy has about 30 out with intake can boss seat and gutting in general.

When your shopping for lightweight parts, throw them on a scale next to the stock parts before you spend the $$ if possible....you'll be surprised how exaggerated most weight saving claims are, most can be cut in half or sometimes nearly identical to stock weight. Have seen alot of "light weight" parts on the scale. Lets just say Cat has done a pretty good job of making things light and still strong. Silencer, hood, seat. Other than that you get into alot of cash for a little loss (if any).

from stuff I've weighed

09 M8
-Jaws can weighs saves 7-8 lbs
-Boss Seat saves 8 lbs

06 M7
-Speedwerx pipe is 4 or 5 lbs lighter

Stuff that I've thought about

Alternative Impact Titanium a-arms -5.8 lbs
BDX air box -8lbs
Timbersled skid weighs 35 lbs, saves 10-20 lbs depending on year

You can definitely take a lot of weight off

I had a 460ish M7 turbo 162 with the mesh hood on it
Holz arms
Holz skid
turbo kit removes intake etc
All foam gone
Lights gone with mesh hood
Boss seat
Remove tail light, snow flap

My 09m1k turbo feels so light in the front I am thinking of how I can add weight lol

Mine is a little different with the 174 on it since the track it self weighs in at a portly 70lbs. That being said, 567 lbs full of fuel. With fuel weighing 6.5 lbs per gallon, mine with just coolant would be 500 dry. That weight also includes the weight of the turbo and the turbo oil tank.
07 M1000
174" Fabcraft tunnel and Timbersled rear skid (rear skid with IceAge rails 37 lbs)
Boss seat, BR Thrasher hood, Fabcraft front end, Slydog ski's. Not the lightest on the snow, but like twsandre stated, I'm looking for something to keep the front end down given anything more than 9 lbs of boost and the power to weight is KILLER!

I think i might take the cake. LMAO

06 m7 le 162
Rkt Head.
Bdx Intake-
Bdx oil delete comming
Bdx 2 wheel-
bdx lights-comming-4ish
boss seat-
Diamond s hood-Have it need to mount-
Timbersled Rear and Front- ^ same
Ti Nuts and Bolts.
Ve Bumper

Lighter then hell right now. go anyplace a 1000 can at the moment....

I've figured i've cut a good 40lbs+ off my m1000

-Boss seat -8bs
-two wheel kit -2lbs
-bdx intake -9lbs
-slp pipe set -16lbs
-pulled all boggies -5lbs
-sno pro to start with -8lbs
-bdx rear bumper kit -3lbs

so all in all about 51lbs if you add it up. it does feel MUCH lighter though.

I weighed mine on a set of race car scales last year. 448 with no fuel or oil. 532lbs ready to ride. Since then, BDX bumper kit(-4lbs), BDX ti chassis bolt kit(-2lbs), BDX 2-wheel kit(-2lbs), BDX starter cup and drive shaft nut(-1lbs). I have taken off the rear rack(installed Mountain addiction fuel rack)(-1lbs). A few other tidbits here and there. I figure that I am closer to 438 dry and 522 ready to ride. This is an 07' M8 162'. We weighed it on the same scale the day I bought it and it was 491lbs.

Easy to lighten them up

08 162

Mesh hood, 1 small light
BDX intake
BDX 2 wheel axle
BDX oil delete
BDX rear bumper
Boss seat
SLP skis
SLP pipe kit
Powerclaw track (I don't think this weighs any less than the challenger)

This is the major stuff, and the sled is ridiculously fun to ride.

495 lbs ready to ride...

I think i might take the cake. LMAO
