Lance Armstong - best athlete ever?

you guys dont know ****.

John Daly changed golf, and the athletic world as we know it, forever. The man is the pinnacle of fitness and great moral character. My vote goes to Daly for greatest athlete of all time.

better not forget babe ruth in this category. while mcguire and bonds needed the juice and supplements, the bambino did it all with just hot dogs and booze.

While I agree the format is annoying, this tirade seems a little over the top for you. I'm used to intelligent (and usually 180 degrees off) arguments from you. I am dissapointed.:D

yah, it is hard to portray sarcasm when ending everything like this!!!!!!!!!!!! you know what i mean????????

I probably have just been staring at my screen for too long today. I should probably go for a walk outside or something. I heard there is a sun and blue sky out there. Might have to see what the fuss is all about... :beer;

Lance is absolutly a "Machine"!!!!! No doubt. He'd be my first pick.
But, how about Blair Margan? Anyone who has done any dirt bike racing knows how physically taxing it is. He dominated the sport along with snowmobile racing. His balance, skill and athleticism is really quite unbelievable.
One more to throw out there..... Travis Pastrana. The Dude is amazing at "everything" he does. Very gifted athlete. :beer;

Stockton doesn't just have a few assists. He's by far the all time leader. That record will never be broken.

1. John Stockton 15,806
2. Mark Jackson 10,334

He's also the all time leader in steals. I'm not saying Gretsky isn't an athlete, but I doubt he was the best athlete on the floor every night. Stockton was the 1st to say he was never the best athlete out there. He played with allot of heart, and was by far the smartest guy on the court though.

I think Chris Paul has a chance to break this record

i'm telling ya fellas, the sports that don't make espn are where the most "athletic" are.

jermery mcgrath,tucker hibbert. james stuart, blair morgan, lance armstrong have all dominated there sport at one time or another

has anybody ever won:
1.) 7 US Opens in golf or tennis or 7 Masters or Wimbletons...in a row
2.) 7 Indy 500's or Daytona 500's....in a row
3.) 7 Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, or NBA titles.....in a row
4.) 7 NY or Boston marathons....in a row
5.) 7 BCS championships or college basketball final 4's......in a row....John Wooden may have come close?
6.) 7 Tour De France races......in a row....besides Lance Armstong.

all after being labeled a dead man with cancer. Pretty incredible stuff. Have you guys ever read his 2 books. I believe they were called Every Second Counts and It's Not About the Bike. Both are great reads!

GO LANCE GO!!

You guys are comparing what taste's the best in a fruit salad, it won't work here.
Lance Armstrong is a "freak" of nature, he has the ability to absorb oxygen at level that is probably 30% higher than the regular athlete, most of the tour de france cyclists are freaks also but he is a once in a lifetime kind.

MJ, Tiger, Gretzky have a skills that might never be matched, but as for a pure physical athletic machine Armstrong can't be touched ever !!!!!!

I don't see that happening. He'd have to average 10 assists a game for the next 18 years to do it. Point guards are more concerned about scoring anymore, and with the contracts these kids are signing, there's no reason to play for that long. Not to mention, staying healthy. Stock played for 20 years, and only missed 6 or 7 games. That's unheard of anymore.

I believe Bill Russell got 10 rings in 11 years. I think he had 8 or 9 in a row. That counts for something.

These are the facts!! And oh yah, Lance had cancer through his whole body!! Who has come back from that? If he wins again this year after a 2 year retirement, who has done that??

The truth is I respect everyone that has been named on this thread. Lance is king IMO!!

If you ever rode a bike for 50-100 miles you would understand a little more why Lance and all the tour athletes are so amazing. They are more like machines than people. Definitely he (Lance) is the greatest athlete of all time. There are many sports that take an incredible amount of technical skill and I agree with one of the posts above recognizing that those skills are in themselves worth mentioning among top athletes. But to be able to do what Lance does every day and recover and do it again is simply amazing. Some of the grades of those hills in the tour are 13% grades and they are holding speeds of 12-20 mph on those slopes and they do it for hundreds of miles a day! Then do it again the next day! Simply amazing.
