Hi all,
was about to put the head back on and I actually thought I'd share that with all of you fellaw Hawk heads !
I don't know about the 600s but the 800s does come stock without reed spacer. What that does is the upper steel part of the stock reed block actually blocks a section of the very middle intake port going to the cylinder, wish I took a picture before putting it back together... So one other reason why our 800HOs ain't producing the power it should...
Anyway all of that to say that even without reed spacer, the freakn carbs end up touching / being in collision with the jackshaft. Came up with a pretty simple solution to be able to put the spacers: the good'ol kustom bracket option. Drilled the carb mounting bracket and had an M5 bolt right through with a nylon locknut (that was pretty fackn tricky to put there let me tell ya !!!). That leaves a good 3/32" - 1/8" between the jackshaft & the carb. Have a look at the pics. I'm a little concerned about vibration though but I think it can't be badder than carbs going everywhere, hitting the jackshaft every rough section...
This assembly is rock solid.
You can also see the way I mounted my Attac, which is the way it should have came out from the factory according to me, not attached to a 1/16" L-shaped bracket held by one bolt... that cracked & ripped off because of vibration & shocks.
Slowly but surely, we'll get through everything... !!! I'm expecting my Hawk to be a missile and "almost" trouble free compared to last year !
Key word here is "almost", unfortunately !
